It's because the only people making any real money off adult mobile (other than carriers willing to service content off their own deck) are those who are contracted to build a mobile solution for a sorry-ass company thinking they'll make money selling their content via mobile.

The problem with mobile is that it's controled by the phone companies themselves.... if your not on the "deck" of the phone itself, it's nearly pointless.

We've already seen how advertising on TV doens't carry over to the internet, and I think the market of people who surf the net looking for pix for their phone is rather limited.

Thats not true! I can make movies that you can sync into your moble using your hot sync. Full movies that only weigh 20 - 30 megs. But on some cheap phones it is true you have to download thru the phone company

If i recall they had processing problems or something but last time i brought that up someone told me the owner was pissed and wanted to meet me in at the Vegas show. they said that they had a solution and were fixing it. that was a long time ago so if they've been active in the past year then i don't know. they did kinda vanish but if anyone has a mobile solution that i can just give my content to and they set it all up let me know. I just haven't had time and i know its easy money I'm missing out on.

I work directly with the major mobile carriers in the US (at&t, tmobile, verizon, sprint, alltell) and they all want nothing to do with anything "adult" related. so if you're looking to do business in the US you'll have to get around that slight problem first....

The only thing I make money on mobile wise is in sms billing on sites. Other than that it is bollocks to market via the internet. Marketting it like adult text is a different thing though.

Selling from TV doesn't work? Since when? We have done thousands of signups over the years from all the TV spots we have done like 20/20, HBO, etc. We do tons from our Playboy stuff as well. 20/20 did over a couple hundred in a matter of hours then kept selling high for about a week after.

The problem with OhMobile I am guessing is that they were making promises that they could not keep and ran afoul of the carriers. I don't know that is what happened... just a hunch since i always got the "too good to be true" feeling about their pitch...

Only thing I can think of is trying to contact some European carriers that'll take your content, batch it themselves, sell it off their decks and give you a percent. You can also try and setup a wireless site and use programs such as Bango to do billing for one-off downloads or time-based memberships to a WAP site -- even for some US carriers (Cingular works well). You can even try and purchase a couple of SMS short codes and do some "cute" style SMS campaigns in the US that aren't adult - like "text to 666 and get this bikini pic of [hot slut's name] for $1.99". However, after carriers and your SMS aggregator take their cut, you're left with very little.

I spent the last three years working at a US adult company doing such things and the efforts and costs exceeded revenue. Like someone said above, anyone contacting you about a wireless solution, you should be very wary of it "sounding too good to be true". I'm not all-knowing in mobile, just know what I've experienced, and usually the middle-man charging to setup a mobile solution for someone is making the money -- not the company paying for that solution.

Anyway... my $.02.

For carriers, I'm not sure, but searching for ones that want adult content and will put your content on their deck is what to look for. I'd also look for ones who will batch pics and videos themselves. If you go the route where you actually give someone your content for them to vend to handsets, make sure you're comfortable with them as the company I worked at, due to content licensing agreements, had to make sure the content they sent out didn't just end up getting used "willy nilly" by the foreign carriers.

Again, I just know what I had to work with, so I'm sure there's many other mobile things out there. And I won't stress it enough: make sure you or someone does some solid leg work on calculating effort spent and expected revenues minus additional costs involved.

It must be remembered that the overall perception seems to be that content on the fixed-line internet should be for free, whereas consumers are already used to paying for calls/SMS/premium content for and by means of their mobile devices and will pay for premium content on the mobile web.

Yes, the cellcos keep too much. But mobile is simply an additional distribution channel for your digital data. And as the industry matures, content owners will get more of a slice of the pie.

Bummer, It was a great experiance.

I was told that my ego got to big.. I don't know, I guess I can see it.. Everything I touched turned to gold. But still thought I was humble and treated everyone the same. After CE, I just kinda went away... Lost interest in the game. Lost interest in the money. Lost interest in the fight.

Well I'm glad to say that those days are over. I have that same feeling coming back..

But, first things first.. After holding it in for 2 years... I just want to apologize to my content, technology partners and Lori Z, that mobile didnt work out..

The second thing, if anyone ever thought I had an ego, tell me about it. I want to hear why you think that. It doesnt have to be on a chat board.. I have an ICQ, I wont be mad at you.. hell.. If you thought I was an asshole.. then tell me.. I'll respect you more for your honesty.

Ok... Now that is said, time to turn the page.
