GFY doctors

Anyone ever experience severe cramping in their hands? Just one actually.

I am eating bananas for the potassium as that used to help when I worked out on a daily basis, but I still feel the lingering pain. Just wondering if anyone actually went to a doctor for something like that.

Thanks.

Yeah... a good chair(not just good looking) that is adjusted with a good keyboard is pretty important considering that you are posting on message boards about 16 hours per day.

Just the fall that caused the carpal tunnel about 15 years ago.

Cramps can be caused by lack of salt in the muscles. You could try bowl of chips with a ton of salt on them.

I am a great doc!

Arthritis would be more of a bone thing. I visit to Indiana in the winter gave me a pretty good idea what that feels like.

I thought that was an old wives tale. I remember they used to give us salt tablets in scouts when we did long hikes. It was later determined to be a myth that salt helped . . . although I do have a VERY low salt diet.

I hope it isn't a permanent thing. My hand started cramping on my way home from dinner tonight (where it cramped about 5 times), and I was on my bike. By the time I stopped I could barely move my thumb to unlock the garage door.

Salt does help, baddog... it's not a myth.

it is, however, better to get your salt from sports drinks and/or diet than taking tablets, so that you're more likely to also absorb the necessary amount of water to best accompany the salt.

Does swelling of localized tissue occur? If so, it could be simple tendinitis... and you can work on that by taking anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen, and keeping your hands immobile and iced as you're able.

I get tendinitis n my wrists, occasionally... and just throw an ice pack on them while I'm watching t.v. or something when it starts acting up. Swelling goes down, and it works like a charm.

No, it is quite temporary, like a spasm . . . . except on the ride home when I could not straighten out my hand due to operating hand controls. That seemed to have lasted for a couple minutes, although I did not really notice it until I stopped and could not open my hand to use my keys.

That sounds shitty... I get carpal flares up all the time, but you get used to the numbness, and I can work around it.

Constantly being on the computer with painful spasms would drive me fucking nuts...
