Start your own radio station with commercials. ( ez tutorial )

Make a folder on your domain , lets call it "radio"

so path should look like www.yoursite.com/radio/

now inside that folder make 2 folders . one called "mp3" and another called "ads"
example
www.yoursite.com/radio/mp3/
www.yoursite.com/radio/ads/

place your songs in folder mp3 and ads in folder ads

save the following as index.php and place it in the "radio" folder

example
www.yoursite.com/radio/index.php

Code:
<?php
set_time_limit(0);
header("ICY 200 OK");
header("icy-notice1: <BR>This stream requires <a href=http://www.winamp.com/>Winamp</a><BR>");
header("icy-notice2: <BR>YEA! <a href=http://www.winamp.com/>Winamp</a><BR>");
header("icy-name: Radio station title");
header("icy-genre: reggae");
header("icy-url: http://www.yoursite.com");

$songs=array();
$mp3 = opendir("mp3/");
while($song = readdir($mp3)){if($song!=".." and $song!="."){$songs[]=$song;}}
$nextad=0;

while(0 != count($songs)){

if($nextad==3){getad();$nextad=0;}

$value=rand(0, count($songs)-1);
$song=$songs[$value];
foreach($songs as $line){if($line!=$song){$songs2[]=$line;}}
$songs=$songs2;
$songs2="";

$fd=fopen("mp3/".$song, "r");
$nullbytes=fgets($fd, 2048);

while(!feof($fd)){echo(fgets($fd, 8912));}
    fclose($fd);
$nextad++;
}

function getad(){
$mp3 = opendir("ads/");
while($ad = readdir($mp3)){if($ad!=".." and $ad!="."){$ads[]=$ad;}}
$fd=fopen("ads/".$ads[rand(0, count($ads)-1)], "r");
$nullbytes=fgets($fd, 2048);
while(!feof($fd)){
$data=fgets($fd, 1024);
echo($data);
flush();
}
fclose($fd);
}
?>
last step is to save the following as ".htaccess" in the "radio" foler
example
www.yoursite.com/radio/.htaccess

Code:
RewriteEngine on
 RewriteRule ^(.*)\.pls index.php [nc]
your radio station url will now be
example
www.yoursite.com/radio/anything.pls

will play in a variety of music players

This would be great on one of my sites, thanks. Is there a way to add weight to certain commercials, like make some commercials play more often than others?

obviously, but if you don't got that route you will have fees to pay. That's all I'm saying.

so to clarify... you are saying that you have to pay for music... with the exception of the music you don't have to pay for.

that helps.

i've never seen that business model fully explained before.

no you dont.. dunno what "fee's" you are referring to or what country would require someone to pay fee's to play music i think what you meant to say was IF you play music that requires fee's to be paid then you have to pay them..

but that goes without saying doesn't it ?

whoops i forgot one important step

make a file called radio.m3u and save the following inside it

Code:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,We Control The Internet Now WWW.WCTIN.COM
http://yoursite.com/radio/index.php
then you can simply call your radio station as a link and it will open the radio station in winamp or whatever media player you have

heres an example radio station i created from the tutorial above

http://wctin.com/radio/radios.m3u

Well actually... You have to pay royalties... for example...

The major note of contention stems from an annual $500 per channel minimum royalty payment set to go into effect next month and retroactively bill Web sites millions of dollars for the previous year.

Hell if I know.. All I do know is that a lot of the net radio stations had a "day of silence" last month to protest these increased fees they have to pay.. I'm just pointing out that anyone that thinks they're just going to throw a net radio station up without any issues had better look into it first.

You have to pay royalties to your national organisation that collects royalties
for artists and producers. In my country they are called BUMA/STEMRA BUMA
is the part that collects STEMRA is the part where artists and producers deposit
their rights.

Think of these as the IRS they're nasty to deal with and it ain't cheap.
pandora had to stop broadcasting outside the US because of this. You even
pay royalties on blank writable media like cdroms, cassettes, mini disks etc, etc.

In Holland to play radio/tv in your house every dutch person pays a yearly
fee. Now if you play the same radio in your shop or even workshop then
you have to pay like 3000 euros per year extra. Coz then you're playing
music in an public accessible environment. All places where music is played
in public pay these fees. So yes unless you play music that's excempt of
copyrights you'd have to pay royalties....and you better pay them upfront
coz when they come knocking on your door you better be prepared for a
rough ride.....

Oh and b.t.w. you also pay royalties when buying music from the store.
That fee however covers ONLY when you play the music in your private
and non pubic domain.

those fees are so funny, in our country you pay for every song you played to organisation named osa. i am friend with many bands and they never saw any penny from their production. all those fees are going to fat fuckers and to old saturated singers and bands from the past. its the most fucked up thing in our fucked up country ... my dream is legal radio station, but if i have to pay for playing independent music and some fat bitches will get the money, thats not the best view for future! fuck of osa! and sorry for off topic, i just had to say this for me very very important shit ...

You don't have to pay EXTRA for playing your own music for yourself....you DO
have to pay playing the music you own that can be listened by OTHERS that's
what they make you pay for.....I wish I was wrong but trust I'm not

How did this turn into a copyright debate thread?

When someone posts a free TGP script, there aren't heated discussions about what (and what isn't) legal to post.

We all have to respect copyright laws or face consequences, no matter the media format. I think that goes unsaid.

Great script, thanks Smokey.

It's not a debate about copyrights...just mentioning it so people don't get
burned by it. And yes it's a great script and I sure appreciate Smokey's efforts
for doing stuff like this....

yup , theres plenty of royalty free music or your own creations you can play.

I'm no music expert but i have created some awesome techno tracks i made myself and i think they could be utilized.

Theres also many other areas you can monetize with this idea than just copyright music..

So its ok to rip off music artists? Its a method that allows piracy just the same as torrents. If I use that where do I pay my royalties to? And you cant say "well you just dont use copyrighted music..." That dont fly.

Im VERY familiar with music copyright laws, and how royalties work. Ive been a member of BMI since 1999. You are supporting a system that bypasses the royalty system that is setup.

Im guessing no one will mind until a dating website advertises next to one of your radio doohickeys..

thats the most retarted statement i have heard.

Do you have a computer ? then you are supporting child porn .. why because its possible you could use it to transfer child porn.. thus anyone who sells computers are only doing so to bypass a royalty system ..

what an idiotic assumption..

You have just won the "stupidest gfy member of the month " .

I sure hope you don't actually believe the drivel your spewing.. get a life , read the thread , and stop acting like a moron..

nobody even insinuated this be used to play copyright music ..

If you asked me i would say " no idiot , you cant break the law , i shouldn't have to tell you that you should already KNOW it "

Well my frineds is in a band and I suggesting they get thier own website created, I saw this thread and thought it would be great for them to add in thier own radio station playing thier own created music and thier own commercials of buying thier music.

they are completely non-adult and non-porn related. but I can't really send them this link to thread with the tutorial on it because well they don't know I work in porn.

So I am wondering how could I get this tutorial without sending them this link,

I cut my 24-7 music off almost a year ago because of the crap you have to do just to report what you play - just like a teresteral radio stations - no big deal but they wanted huge lic fee's and i said yuck foo -

as for playing other kinds of content ie: non copywritten stuff yeah you can but why waste the bw on crap no ones gonna listen too - we only do talk shows now and thats the way it will stay for now!

yes.. i could be wrong but lets say for example you have 4 songs playing. if the user listens to them over and over 50 times its like they download 200 songs from you. if they simply downloaded the mp3's they would only need to do it 4 times and have them forever.

but hey bandwidth is pretty cheap nowadays too.

this would be great for like a 1 hour show every week.. or inside a members area "wankin tunes" or a talk radio station.

Depends on how your MP3s are encoded I guess. 128 kbps per person listening at the bare minimum all the way up to 320 kbps per person listening.
