INTERNIC NEW FEATURE: report faulty domain registrations

Unless you have been in a black hole you know that ICANN warned Verisign to clean up its who is database or lose the rights to .com registrations. I doubt they would go that far, but they came up with a nice tool to allow surfers to report faulty whois data, and to encourage the clean up of the database.

http://www.internic.net/cgi/rpt_whois/rpt.cgi

Although I think the effect will be nominal, it is a start and hopefully it will have some positive long term impact on the database. Perhaps it will also result in the release of some shitty false registrations of names some of us want to use.

Fuck that. I love using bullshit info. A good fake return on a whois query is a thing of beauty.

Like most people I operate from a residence. Ill be damned if I am gonna put my home address.

Don't hold your breath on that ...

I hope your right but I'm not so optimistic about it since verisign aka network solutions has fucked every webmaster over since the inception.

Here is a blurb from the CNET Article this morning:

http://news.com.com/2100-1023-956433.html?tag=fd_top

ICANN said VeriSign's violations include ignoring repeated requests to correct customer information for Dundjerski.com, in which the administrative contact was, "OOO Blank St., No City, XX 0000" with a phone number of "123-123-1234."

You know how hard it is to get someones home address from a PO Box #? Not very.

I learned the very hard way.

don't worry, I'm sure someone will give you $25 for your URLs since you're too cowardly to put correct contact info in them.

Well if this becomes a problem...

AWMFS.COM will open up (Adult Webmaster Mail Forwarding Service)

See I'm full of ideas... no I didn't register it... somebody dive in and make it work... think of the possibilities...

good for foreign webmasters and webmasters that move around a lot like me...

not that I would use the service -- but it seem like a good idea ;)

Hmm, so I guess they want more realistic looking fake contact info?

Thanks Tom! Got your email. I'll wing it til he gets a dbase written to handle this all automatically, and has the site up and going. Our tech is at a conference again this week so we can't get any programming done until mid next week but that shouldn't be a problem to start out. Let me know on your new domains and we'll take care of you.

Headie!! How ya darlin? Still thinking on the plans for this thing, but the rough idea is we will get a online form contract made up to show that you forinstance own such and such domain/s, but use our mail service as the legal mailing address.

We have thought that a common phone number might be added in at some time in the future so that all of your personal information is covered under your own name as the registrant. The contract guarenteeing that we won't be jacking your domains (as if we need more of them lol)

On charges, a small charge per domain per year. Undecided as of yet on the exact amount but it wouldn't be alot. On clients with serious numbers of domains, we'd work a deal out to lessen the charge as well.

You probably know it can run up to 300 and more per year for a USPS PO Box and even more at the mailbox storefronts... so with this you could get the same thing, without paying as much for the box, use us a cover for your real physical address like Labret mentioned is easy to break.

So ICANN will be happy with you, and we'd forward any emails, and snail mails to you. (Snail mails having a small charge added in for costs etc, but no snail spam would be forwarded... we know what that looks like since we get it 100x over ourselves)

In addition we might set up an email acct for each client thru our forwarding domain where you could pick up your emails. Instead of us using one common email addy on the whois docs for each client.

If you have any questions. lemme know!

PS, did you get a new boat yet and if so, are you keeping it UNDER your bed where no trees can get to it?!
