Tell me about new bands or singers I need to check out
I am falling behind in checking out new bands. I like harder rock, punk, indie and metal largely but I with listen to anything that is good. Though it is true that I am less likely to like boy b(l)ands or rap.
So, who - from whatever country - should I be checking out? |

Joel Plaskett.
He's Canadian and is amazing. Check out his new album "Ashtray Rock" to get into him and especially the song "Fashionable People" www.JoelPlaskett.com

Hmmm, without knowing what you already have I could make a list a mile long. These aren't all new bands, but they have recent stuff out in case you haven't heard of them before.
Year Long Disaster - great new up and coming band Porcupine Tree - progressive/heavy Queens of the Stone Age - new album is great (actually, all albums are great) Eagles of Death Metal - not really death metal, just good rock (features Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age) |

Silent Civilian (Genre: Metalcore)
Burn to black (Genre: Black Metal) I Killed The Prom Queen (Genre: Hardcore) Elis (Genre: Goth Metal) Despised Icon (Genre: Metalcore) The new album from Machine Head "The Blackening" is well worth a listen, I thought it was especially good. My favorite song was Aestitics of Hate. |

There is also Stuck Mojo if you don't mind a bit of rap with your metal.
You can download their entire newest album for free from the multimedia page. |

Brother Firetribe is definately my favorite band right now. They've got an 80s rock/hard rock sound with ultra catchy choruses and top notch production.

Check out Battles. They are mostly instrumental, but they are progressive as hell. I doubt you will hear anything as unique as this. I just saw them in Toronto the other night and I was blown away at how talented these guys are. If they had a singer, they could easily be the next Radiohead (yup I said it).
http://www.myspace.com/battlestheband Also, my friends are in a band named dodger. They have an album coming out produced by Jag Tanna from I Mother Earth. www.dodger.ca

An ex of mine is a huge Devin Townsend fan..him and Opeth are both a bit bitter sweet for me because of that but perhaps it is time to shake it and listen again.
