Projector question:

My movie projector keeps turning off after like 3 min, the screen goes a weird color and then it suddenly turns off.

anyone have any ideas why?

Some projectors shut down when they're overheating, could be that.

any idea what they reccomend to keep it cool? i custom put a fan in and it seems it did not help maybe it needs more of a powerful fan to help it.

cause the thing will shut off and go into what i think is cool down mode for like a good 20min

any suggestions?

Is your projector in a custom enclosure or something? Mine also shut down a few times once, but that happened because I had it in a ventilated enclosure and also had replaced the fans inside the projector with slower ones. Increasing the speed of the fan in the enclosure solved it.

However if you have your projector in stock form sitting on a table or hanging from the ceilling, it shouldn't be overheating or shutting down like that.

it is hanging from the celing, not in an enclosure.

i really also though it was overheating when it shuts off u can feel warm air blowing out of the projector and the top is super hot to the hand, then it will sit in cool down mode for a long while.

how exactly do you increase your fan speed?

i am really hoping it is something minor.

basically brand new, i am not to sure on total bulb time,

like i was saying after it is running for a few min the projector blows really hot air and is very hot to touch, then it just cuts out and goes into what i think is cooldown mode it has been in this mode though now for like 45min so i dunno.

Maybe it's just the heat, been pretty warm here lately... try running it on eco mode (saves the bulb and generates less heat).

Could also be a power interruption... when they don't get shut down properly most will do a cool down cycle once they're powered back on (and you can't turn it on again till that cycle completes). Maybe theres a problem with the outlet you have it plugged into?

google the model for problems - I would guess it is the bulb. Ebay will be your best bet for a replacement. You can buy a decent new projector for like $600 - try "IN24" or "IN26" - Infocus

update:

well i let it cool off, and i noticed there is a "high altitude" mode on the projector it seemed to speed up the fan from what i can tell, so far it is running smoothly. i am just gonna leave a movie on as i work to see how long it lasts.
