WARNING: For anyone who has pets ..

While i was at the XBIZ summer forum i had my house sprayed for ants, it had gotten out of hand since it's summer time. I made sure it was a pet friendly pest control company, they swore it was non-toxic. When i got home i noticed she was acting weird. Usually she jumps on my lap to see me and she couldn't. She started shaking and then couldn't control herself. I jumped in my car and started rushed her to the pet emergency hospital. In the car she had 6 grand mal seizures by the time i got her there. She was in the hospital until last night. She seems to be doing better now .. but her tremors havn't stopped 100%. She is on meds every 8 hours. The Vet told me this was very common and pest control centers often lie about how safe their products are.

SO Please be very careful with pest control! Research, Research, Research!!

Here is a link to some simple non-toxic solutions to try first: http://www.eartheasy.com/live_natpest_control.htm

I have had some nasty bugs this season in My new place, I have been Meaning to setup a pest spraying but have been waiting to go out of town so I can take the 2 dogs with me. I am scared for my pets safety and my own.

I'd be passing that bill on to the pest control company with some serious legal threatening.

Hi Megan,

I hope your dog is doing better and that she recovers fully. We had some pesticide spraying in my neighborhood and I lost 4 koi fish to it...some of them were pretty big too.

For ants we've had success with citrus-scented cleaning wipes. There's one more that. We also used some powders that were good (I'll have to check with wifey, I don't recall which one worked best).

Now I recall....

Chalk works great! It should be non-toxic to everyone. The ants HATE chalk - it is very effective and inexpensive.

My God! That's terrible! Not only is it bad that they lied but then to see your pet affected by something they couldn't prevent. I'm glad you caught it before it was too late.

I agree....She could file a claim against the Pest Company in question. It is faster than sueing someone. If she files a claim, they will want to keep it out of court and settle.

I would never leave my dog anywhere near where anyone was spraying pest control products not matter how many assurances the company gave me. If it's not something I think is good for myself it's certainly not good for my pooch.

I am definatly making them pay for the vet bills .. but i wont be suing.

Also i didn't leave my dogs near the spray ... we asked if we should keep them indoors for awhile. The company said NO .. but we did anyway. I actually think what happened is the next morning when my puppy went out there she walked in the yard, did her business and then came in and licked her feet. Which she pretty common .. but how i think she ingested the poison.

I just wanted to make more people aware of other ways to handle pests .. since nothing is actually very safe.

This was kinda like my PSA so hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else.

That's horrible. I'm happy that the house I'm buying has the pest control in the walls, so they won't even have to spray inside the house for pests. It's all contained.

For ants you dont even need a pest spray. Just give them grits. Buy a package at the store, and pour it near where they come from. Not toooo much. they will take it back to the mound. When they eat it, and then drink water, it swells and kills them.

In the future wait at least 24 hours before you let anything come in contact with an outside insecticide. Especially if the grass is wet like it usually is in the morning. Wait till it dries. The company should have even placed a few little throwaway flags in the yard stating so. I know they do around here.

At first I thought you were talking about what they spray inside. The outside stuff is usually much stronger or concentrated.

yes, they all lie, none are pet friendly. When i have my place sprayed, twice a year cuz of contact, i leave my 2 dogs with friends or family for 2 days.

I hope your dog gets better and a speedy recovery. Hang in there

There is nothing wrong to sue to get the vet bills paid. No "pain and suffereing" stuff tacked on or anything like that but to get the vet bills + lawyer fees paid for is more than reasonable. I would try and work it out with the company at first, of course, but if they refuse to pay for the vet bills then there would be no reason not to sue.
