Black Holes, Hyperspace & Time Travel

I just got done watching time machine (the new one) and was not really impressed. So when i got home i searched google for "parallel dimensions" etc. For some real entertainment.

Its really quite mond boggling the idea's these physics professors have come up with in the past few years to improve on einsteins theories.

Some interesting facts that i've picked up over the last few hours...

The theory of multiple dimensions...improved...

A electron has been proven to be able to exist in 2-places at one time. Yup...that pretty much means you can too...beam me up scotty

The confirmation of a black hole by the hubbel space telescope has changed Dr. Steven hawkings mind of time travel from impossible to "conceivable or possible". I'm sure some of you have read about this...for those who havn't check out this page its great http://www.mkaku.org/

Just thinking about this type of thing...makes me realize just how trivial our little fights with our wife might be, how pointless our persuit of material things is, and countless other things in life just seem to fail in comparison to the mind numbing possibilities our little world has to offer.

So the next time someone cuts you off in traffic, & you decide to get out & give them a peice of your mind...consider the futility of it all, relax and just be content & happy with the fact that you even exist in the first place, and save yourself the slight possibility that that person might pull out a gun & end your stay here in this dimension, & consequentially your sons, grandsons, great grandsons & so on.

That huge universe may just be a little dot floating around in another.

Now multiply that by infinity & you'll see why humans may never fully understand time & space.

Maybe its best that we just forget anything outside of earth even exists?

I have read Michio Kaku's books before, hyperspace & the 10th dimention.
I liked the way he was able to explain things in a manner that anyone with half a brain could understand.

Very interesting stuff.

I especially like his analogy of a carp in a coy-pond. Not realizing what it is above the rippling water, but recognizing the ripples when it rains & splashes.

Quite an interesting read

where are all the time travellers?

Oh Posh! EVERYone knows the Temporal Directive disallows future time travelers from coming in to contact with us! Sheesh.

Brief History of Time is really, really good.

Also, The Last Three Minutes, and The First Three Minutes (both by Paul Davies). There are so many good books out there - anything by Hawkings is worth reading - he doesn't dummy things down very much (which I prefer).

Seems like everything these days is made for slow people, everything has an instruction manual even things that have only one possible conceived use.

The day a can of soda has a "warning contents under pressure do not open near eye" is the day i kill myself.

Time travel...hmmm. The last I knew, there was no really satisfactory answer to "what is time?" We all know perceptual time: (time goes by faster when you're having fun, slower when you're bored, your whole life flashes before you when you're in peril of dying, etc.). But time is one of those things that seems to escape adequate definition.

The point being, if you don't really know what time is, then "in two places at the same time" shares in that ambiguity.

Good point unseen.

Using only 5% of our brain (or so we think) are we even capable of discussing such possibilities? Or are all of our theories merely figments of our imagination explained to the point of belief based on the lack of any other explination.

I had better be carefull...talking about this type of thing, if our brain is a harddrive then mines about to crash

If someone is looking upon us from space he must be laughing and joking about how all these little ants without much meaning kill eachother all day long.

Humans have just enough intelligence to explore and research their own word, surely not enough for the entire universe.

Wake me up when we can finally travel at the speed of light.

maybe the reason i can't explain "existance", or why anyone in this world i've experienced can't explain it, is because none of it exists.. .none of you exist! nor does this web page or this earth / universe... everything i've experienced could just be a dream of some sort

prove to me ANY of you truly exist

The fact that you are second handing this statement should be proof enough that someone other than you exists. Every time you utter a cliche... you're proving that you DON'T exist.

By the way, I agree with UnseenWorld and would take another step into the mire. TIME doesn't exist, except as a fake, well circulated newsrag.

If you want to analyze relative motion that's one thing. But if you start saying that "time" happens at different rates, or goes backward... that's stretching a handy human conceptualization which based on totally physical metrics in the direction of star trek.

Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" is really good...very easy to read, not a lot of technical jargan, but it's still quite thorough.

To me, the most amazing fact is how much of "reality" is empty. It's been said that subatomic particles are so small that if you took all the empty space out of the universe and compacted all the subatomic particles into a sphere, it would be somewhere around the size of an orange or grapefruit, although if that happened, there would be only one object in the universe and the whole concept of size (which has its meaning in terms of the relations between things) would become vacuous.

Hello,
If you are a time traveler or alien and or in possession of government or alien technology I need your help! My entire life and health has been messed with by evil beings! If you have access to the carbon copy replica model #50 3000 series, the dimensional warp, temporal reversion or something similar please reply! I simply need the safest method of transferring my consciousness to my younger self with my current mind/memory. I need an advanced time traveler to work with who can help me, I would prefer someone with access to teleportation as well as a variety different types of time travel. This is not a joke! I am serious! Please send a separate email to me at: [email protected] if you can help! Thanks

I just finished reading "Black Holes and Baby Universes" again. Great stuff.

Hey Quiet you ever read "Metamagical Themas" or "Age of Spiritual Machines"? I know you're into this stuff and wondered what your thoughts were on those two (my two favorites) if you have.

Quantum Physcis is pretty amazing. They say when it is explained, if you are not completely amazed, then you don't understand the explaination.

Well - here is my scientific explanation!

We all agree that not everyone is a time traveller - I for one am not, and so are you (the one who reads this) - most probably..
So if not everybody is a time traveller, their number is finite (or less then infinite).

Now...
There are infinite travelling posibillities. Time is endless and if you had to choose a moment in time to travel to - you would have endless opportunities, plus the huge infinite number of places you can travel to in this giant universe (not to mention what would happend to this opportunities number - if they realized that there are infinite numbers of parallel universes).

So, mathematically...
Finite/Infinite = 0
This is the probability that a time traveller will arrive at a specific time.

We all agree that we all live in a specific time... so... the probability that a time traveller will arive now, and here - is zero.

That is why we don't see time travellers!
You see? Makes sense.

time travel is not possible, time and the speed of light have no connection, einstien was wrong about it.
When I retire, I'm going to spend my time disproving time travel.
