Hosting: unbelieve deal?

They offered us a 30mb/s (Level3) + server for $2000

Is that possible or it's total bullshit?

Total bullshit...

Unless they are oversubscribing the SHIT out of the 30M pipe...they probably only bought 30M and shoving all their clients into it...

I know EXACTLY what 30M costs from all the major players, and there is NO WAY that is getting done that cheap.

His name is Jay from Dynamic Hosting.

I was like WTF, I'm currently hosting @ Candid and pay more then that for a cheap line.

I don't remember the server spec exactly... but it was something like a P4. I'll go check my logs on my laptop

Sounds too good to be true...I seriously doubt they can offer bandwidth pricing that cheap unless it is on the Cogent network.

If you are interested in a reliable host let me know, we'll hook you up.

Good Luck!

I don't remember exactly the price for a 100mb/s on level3 but it was cheaper than the cogent deal I asked for a couple of months ago.

It's pretty fucked up since I thought the bandwitdh price would go UP, not down.

Indigo - jay is a solid guy. I've known him since jan, 2000. we've had a box hosted there since late 2000 ... like august. I still get their email announcements - the offer that you're talking about is

2 Intel P4 Boxes and 30mb/s - 2000.00/month
2 Intel P4 Boxes and 50mb/s - 2750.00/month
4 Intel P4 Boxes and 100mb/s - 4100.00/month

No doubt, it's legit.

there are a couple very good hosts in this industry. Dynamic is one of them. very good guys. great customer service...

It's a great deal! I would say, wehn you like the host TAKE it :-) THe prices are low nowadays.

ISprime offers 10 MBPS for 750 dollar inclusing a DELL Server. So for 30 MBPS you would pay something similiar.

Just look around and see that's not only Cogentco that's cheap.

You can get unmetered Cogent 100mbps here for $1500 / mo.

The deal sounds quite likely. The thing is you will never use 30, or even 10 mbps with just a single server.

That's complete and utter bullshit. Had a freehost on ISPrime burn way the fuck more than 30Mbps with a single box.

Well running a freehost certainly means all bets are off in regards
to bandwidth consumption. If you have 1500 guys trying to cheat you, you can probably use a bit of bandwidth.

Which free host was it?

We have boxes doing 60-70 mbps every day.

but you wont be getting these for these kind of deals your mentioning...because then you would actually be able to use what they are selling you, they dont want this.

and you cannot get cogent for 1500 for 100 mbps...maybe one dinky box on a 100mbps port and all the server would be able to handle is about $1500 worth of bandwidth not 100 mbps.

all this is just "marketing" and bullshit.

Before Cogent raised their prices you could get 1000 Mbps for $20000 or 100 Mbps for $3000. They raised it to 1000 for $30000 some time ago.

There is no way you can get (real) 100 Mbps cogent for $1500 or 30 Mbps Level 3 for $2000. Both plans are based entirely on over subscription by 200% to 300%. If the billing for the 30 Mbps is based on 95 percentile it may not be that high but there is still quite a bit of over subscription.

I know one TGP on a P4 can fill 30MB/s, much less two.

I know 2 guys who are using the above Cogent deal for Freehosts. I know a couple others who are paying $3000.

This was my point in the first place. It seems statistically unlikely that even if you did have true 100 mbps that you could use it all with your Dell pizza Box. And with the caveat of a free host or other bandwidth pig scenario it is unlikely that most clients would use a continuous 10 or 30 mbps.

This is why Rackshack will only give you a low end Celeron IDE box with their 10 mbps unmetered. It is unlikely that you will get to 80% of total usage on that box, so they have a 20% margin
with the remainder.

I have used all of these networks and this has been my experience. Most have served me quite well as we have never really overdone it with demand.

The deal is real and it's good. I have been hosting with Dynamichosting.com Since they opened.

I"m all over the 50mbs deal.

If you can you should take advantage of it. Summer is almost over and the Fall will bring the traffic and sales again.

Jay isn't bullshiting you, he's for real. I just bumped up my plan to the 30 mb/s deal. I've had my sites at dynamic for 2 years with no problems.

Funny how these hosting companies call bullshit because they can't offer the same deal.

Its not on the Cognet network, its on level 3 like he said.

I don't know about the others who posted in this thread, but I can tell you for a fact that we can offer the exact same deal(s) DH is offering using the exact same gimmicks. Remember, there is always much going on that is not easily (or at all) visible.

LOL
so it has to be a gimmick because YOU can't offer the same deal straight up on level 3?
what kind of gimmicks are you talking about anyway? please elaborate

anyway, i'm not trying to get into a pissing match with you about this. I'm just saying i've been pushing a lot of bandwith with dynamic for some time now, and i'm extremely happy with them.

Does anyone have a link or proof that a low end celeron can't handle 10Mbit/s sustained? I think thats kind of bullshit. Someone please link me to some proof of a 1ghz celeron not being able to process 10Mbit/sec worth of data. Even in a celeron the internal cache is like 4 terabytes per second...and even at 100mhz fsb to the ram, thats still gigs of ram transfer.

And jesus christ, even if it had to swap like a mofo, IDE drives today are at least 15MBytes/sec even on the innermost part of the platter.

Some show me some fucking proof.

I mentioned some of the tricks in my previous post and I'm sure DH as well as any other host that has good technical knowledge and business experience knows most of them.

It has to be a gimmick not because WE can not do it, but because it can not be done (doing it while loosing money does not count).
If you told me you could fly without any gadgets, I would say it can not be done. I'm sure you saw (or you believe you did) David Copperfield do it on stage, but that does not make it possible, it's just a trick, a gimmick.

You might also be happy if you get one of their packages mentioned above. But you being happy does not mean that you really got what you paid for or were promised. Again, appearances can be deceiving and in this case what you don't know will hurt you, you just wont know it or when you find out it will be too late.

I have nothing against DH, I hear mostly good things about them. My problem is only with false and deceptive advertising in this offer, but I know it is not entirely their fault. They might have simple had no choice. There are some many hosts popping up and so many of them lie that sometimes the good hosts that have been around for years are forced to do something similar to attract customers.

I have no affiliation with any of the hosts here but I can honestly say that the BW providers are cutting their prices like crazy right now. Because of my bulk buying, Verio has offered prices as low as $35 a meg. Akamai, the CDN company has even made their rates lower (not that I'd use them for porn). Things are changing just as we expected when Cogent hit the market. What they are offering is not unbelievable.

OK, this is all very interesting. If you can get good service, support, and bandwidth at that price sounds to me like you should go for it.

We stand behind our service, support, and servers and we have been catering to the adult industry since 1998. We push a lot of bandwidth and buy in bulk to keep our costs down.

We do not give our service away for free, and we plan on being in business for a very long time.

It has been my experience that when you find a good host stick with them.

Pornwolf, hook me up with whoever you got $35/Mbps pricing. We are very interested.

T-Rav,

Yea, $35 a Meg is possible, but you have to buy a ful GigE for a 36-month contract...but it IS possible.

Cogent, Verio and maybe Aleron but the ones that have the high quality networks and a higher chance of staying in business don't have prices anywhere that low.

The $35 a Meg price for a full GigE only applied to four-cities...that price was not a national roll-out price.

Cogent = Bad.
Aleron = Bad.
Verio = Still pretty damn good.

LOL! This thread is funny. Verio, Cogent & Aleron mentioned in the same sentence! C'mon man, the comparison isn't even close.

T-Rav, shoot me an e-mail if you want more info. The arrangement I have with them doesn't require a 36 month commitment and they will handle you from wherever your datacenter might be. I don't work for them and I don't own a hosting company so I'm not trying to make any money by offering you this connection. The folks over there have bent over backwards to accomodate an important project of mine so I am happy to refer anyone else who needs a special bulk price, especially the folks on GFY.

Denis,

Since you aren't offering that deal, why would I want to contact you about a set up time?

Confused,

Rik

Why don't people post all these great deals up here? If everyone is getting such similar deals, why the incredulity in the first place?

There are apparently a lot of guys interested in deals like this, and I for one will tell everyone on here where I am giving my business.

We can have your server online the same day you sign on. As with any dedicated server order, it may take a day or so to get content uploaded, DNS transferred, and scripts installed.
