What franchise biz would you buy if had the money but no free time?

A franchise that doesn't require the owner to physically work daily in it?

panera bread

but that would never happen because of panera bread's insane list of requirements to become a franchise.

This thread reminds me of my dream, which I hope to fulfill one day:

--- I want to own / run a portable shaved ice and melon stand of some sort, on a white sandy beach close to clear, blue, ocean waters in a tropical climate. A wifi connection would be clutch, but not necessary. My house would be close, the dog would play in the water and jump on local tourists and the bride would have her own cafeteria serving breakfast, lunch and delicious dinners during chosen dates.

......................

Sorry.... I kind of went off the thread topic, though it felt good to write it all down.

They're in the US, the qualifications for opening them up is pretty sick though.

http://www.panerabread.com/about/franchise/

Qualification Criteria
Applicants must meet these criteria to gain consideration for a Panera Bread franchise:
  • Experience as a multi-unit restaurant operator
  • Recognition as a top restaurant operator
  • Net worth of $7.5 million
  • Liquid assets of $3 million
  • Infrastructure and resources to meet our development schedule
  • Real estate experience in the market to be developed
  • Total commitment to the development of the Panera Bread brand
  • Cultural fit and a passion for fresh bread

I'd love a McDonald's franchise.

Tim Horton's is growing here in the NE US. HUGE already in Canada. They require their owner/operators to actually be in the store working/managing them on a pretty much, full time basis.

I opened a Deli about 8 months ago and am already turning profiting. Something that would take a while with a franchise.

Here's an idea for you, its a bit of a Franchise Biz without all the requirements and licensing.

A friend of mine that I went to High School with back in the USA started a Coca-Cola vending machine business. He started with one machine in an office building and paid a small rent to the office building owners. He stocked the machine with Coca-Cola products he bought from Costco Wholesale. He was fairly successful making profit of about $100 a week so he got financing to buy another one. He continued to increase one at a time for awhile. Last I spoke with him he owned something like 65 machines. He got a huge deal with the County School System and put the vending machines in a few of their high schools. He has 2 trucks and 2 guys that work for him full time with a small warehouse. The business is nearly hands off at this point with his trucks being sent out daily to refill the vending machines.

The business is solid and requires very little upfront costs.

Good luck on your venture!

Jim

they run their business really weird, and I know it's privately held. I have heard that they do not franchise, but I'll take a look again (cause if they do then I'd be all over it)

I'm vegetarian and here's what I always order:

Grilled cheese animal style with as many grilled onions al possible
fries, animal style, well done
and a big diet coke or a shake sometimes

good stuff.

wikipedia says the following, so it may or may not be true: "All locations are company-owned. The privately owned corporation does not currently plan to franchise or to take the company public."

they pay their employees a lot too, which I really like. This means theres probably less spit in the food compared to other fast food places

In-N-Out Burger does not franchise but money talks. California Pizza Kitchen does not franchise either but they allowed one person to own a franchise at the Mirage Hotel in Vegas. Again, money talks.

If you?re not going to be part of the daily management, you should get something that is not cash intensive. Your employees and family members will rob you blind.

if you are out of US online poker room. I know a franchise that is 10k to start, they give you everything but the players. It is part of a network so there will be players playing, just not making you money until you get players to play through your card room.

Love it as well, but you need a good location and people need to be aware... It's way more popular on the west coast than the east here in Canada from what i've seen.

Hmmm, well I swear to God that the In-N-Out on Sunset Blvd by Hollywood Highschool had a little pamphlet there about starting your own In-N-Out... My office used to be right by there, so i was there a lot. But, who the fuck knows.

Just look at some of the businesses for sale boards and you will see Quiznos owners trying to give the franchises away just to get out from under the contract. Do a Google search, too, and you will see Quiznos franchise owner horror stories in abundance.

I recommended this to someone else, once, but you could always go for one of those drive thru coffee franchises that are getting really popular. This is an example of one http://www.mysitespace.com/franchise...ls.asp?FID=407
