GIF makers...Help Please!

I want to make some gifs of scenes from video...like the one in my sig. What program should I use to get the amount of frames needed to create a gif? I have Adobe ImageReady and I guess I could just use a little bit of insight on the creation process. Do I need to get some DVD Player that can do screenshots or what is the best way to go about doing this?

Thanks for any help!

Cool...
Thanks, does this work better than ImageReady? Also, what about chopping up bits of movies to make into a gif? How do I go about doing that? Any suggestions?

Step 1:
Bring up your video on your TV.

Step 2:
Start the video and stop it on Frame 1.

Step 3:
Take a picture of Frame 1 with your digital camera.

Step 4:
Advance the video to Frame 2.

Step 5:
Take a picture of Frame 2 with your digital camera.

REPEAT THE FRAME CAPTURE UNTIL YOUR LAST FRAME

Step 6:
Dump your pictures onto your computer.

Step 7:
Print them all out.

Step 8:
Order the print outs from the first to the last frame.

Step 9:
Flip through the frames quickly and watch the animation.

Step 10:
Get a buddy to film you flipping through the frames and capture the video.

Step 11:
Export the video onto teh computer.

Step 12:
Use a Video to GIF pictures converter to make it Giffy!

DONE!

Damn that sounds like some ghetto gifs to me!

I did some searching online and found this:

...And depending on how long it is, you could just open the file in QT (not pro, or pro if you want) hit ctrl+c, paste into a new frame for an animation in some application, then go back to QT, copy the next frame, etc. Wouldn't take that long.
So I think I'll give this a shot and see how it turns out.

Silky, after the QT step above, here's my suggestion of your next step ...

1) Open photoshop, as you copy each frame grab paste them all into the same document - each screen grab as a new layer.

2) When you have all of them go to 'image size' to make it the size you want

3) Then go to the file menu & select 'edit in imageready' or 'switch to imageready' depending on what PS version you have

4) Make sure the 'animation' menu window is open in imageready. If not, go to window menu, & open it

5) Make sure the first frame is the first layer & in the animation window select 0.1 second from the little menu in bottom right corner of the frame.

6) Then press the 'duplicate current frame' button along bottom of animation window so you make a second frame the same. With this frame selected, hide the first layer in your layers menu to reveal the next cap. Repeat as many times as needed.

7) Then go file --> save optimized as & there's your gif!

If you want some more info about color settings & compression lmk before you save it. ;-)

Oh & also the program linked above by cooluks, gif construction set, is really really good - its a step by step program where you just select your files. It's got some limitations photoshop & imageready don't have but I recommend it as an easy option.

Good luck!
