Think about it like this: Say you have a domain making, I dunno, $300 a month (just an example) or $3600 a year - That is up to say $90k for the domain to buy. But if the new owner can raise the value of that domain (say by good linking from other domains, better SEO, better monetization of the traffic) then they could maybe raise that number WAY up, far over what the domain is making now.

short .com domains aren't going to lose value, and the more they work them, the more they will get paid for them when they resell.

I get hit up all the time for domains. Got another one today for a couple of 4 letter domains I own. I know it is someone with money fishing, hiding behind a free email account. Sorry, but I don't have any 4 letter domains for sale for $200.
