fell 2 (fl)
adj.
1. Of an inhumanly cruel nature; fierce: fell hordes.
2. Capable of destroying; lethal: a fell blow.
3. Dire; sinister: by some fell chance.
4. Scots Sharp and biting.
Idiom:
at/in one fell swoop
All at once.

The term actually came to great use when there were a lot of the animal plante type shows on in the 70's. Most of the time, when they wanted to show something striking, they would show a hawk or Eagle grab its prey, and they used the term. it was a " Fatal swoop " but they would say in " IN one fatal swoop " meaning to kill in the down swoop of flight.

But you never know.

If you don't care about something, say
"I could NOT care less."
This means you already don't care. You can't care less than 0%.

If you say
"I could care less"
Then you are saying you DO care, and you could care a little less than you already do. This does not make sense when you are trying to explain how LITTLE you care about something.

Use your BRAINS, people!

Ok, next! Anyone else have any pet peeves they need to vent?

Yeah I'm pissed I didn't to spend any time talking with you in Tampa!

I hate people who use the term 'scary good' to describe something.

Does it scare you when something is that good? Do you run and hide under your covers because a sports team has a stacked roster (for example)?

No, I think not. Thus, please stop using that damn expression. :upsidedow

My pet peeve would be people saying "ATM Machine".

Shey 07-06-2007 04:04 AM

How about the people that use "you know" 10 times in a single sentence? The worst part of it is, I DO IT ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!! It makes me angry but I can't help it, it's like a curse!!!

But in my defense, English is also not my first language.:2 cents:

I'd like to know when "No Problem" replaced "You're Welcome" in US retail and restaurants :disgust

Good point! I usually say "ATM" or "bank machine," I think.

Oh! No kidding. When I was retail manager, I forbade my employees from saying "no problem" in reply to "thank you"!

no problem NOT equal to you're welcome!

Gee, helping me wasn't a problem? How nice for you..... blah
