So, you are going to move solely to get a better price?

That's correct. Every 2-3 years I will go out there and kick the tires to see what other hosts have to offer. I'm paying $739/mo for this package right now.

So if you can save 50 bucks a month, is that worth the downtime and extra work it will take to move the sites?

I would recommend staying if you get a good service. Loyal customers get better service. Maybe ask your current host to check your price if there isn't room for improvement

Noted. Still, I'd like to at least know what's out there. If the cost makes the hassle worth it then I'd do it. That, plus there's the off chance that someone can offer a lot more to me for my same $739/mo.

You're a moron.... If you know what you're doing there is NO downtime... If you know what you're doing moving the sites is easy and a lot of hosts will even do it for you.

Loyal customers DO NOT get better service.. The customers that are paying thousands a month or yell the loudest get the best service.

The only thing worthwhile you had to say was for him to check if the host will give him a better price... Why? Because "loyal customers" get fucked over paying the same price they signed up with while new customers get better deals. You have to go back to your host every 6 months or so and talk them into giving you a better price based on what else is available in the market.

Firstly, moving should not cause any downtime whatsoever. If it does, your new "host" is most likely Billy Bob working out of his moonshine shed in Western Kentucky.

Second, all customers should receive top quality service. If you're paying $10 a month and don't get satisfying service, move. There are companies with lower prices that do great. There are companies with lower prices that do not. But don't believe the hype "you're only paying $10, you don't deserve quick responses."

To Steve Awesome, I can give you a better deal than what you have right now if you're ok with a few substitutes, mainly the control panel. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] and we can work on specifics.

Sure, if you run static sites like you do, then no problem. But try migrating a NATS installation, where there are 500+ online on the member.*.com domain.

Try that, and then come back and tell me about no downtime.

There are always problem, no matter is the host is Flyingcroc, ISPrime, LikeWhoa, Split or Webair. There will always be problems.

That isn't exactly downtime, but you're right, a huge pain in the ass to save $50 a month. But the guy is spending $750 a month on one server, odds are he doesn't have a 500+ member database and incoming sales. :-)

Moving large operations over money is quite risky.

We might even have a better deal for less. Keep in mind lower price doesn't mean better.

We have a 2u aluminum p4 ht fully managed with daily off server back ups and weekly off site back ups. This comes with cpanel and is monitored and managed so you can sit back and focus on your business.

We also run a firewall and manage the ip's for you.

Keep companies like FIFA and Sony use the the platinum plan for it's stability.

Then its a question on how you define downtime then. I call it downtime when site is working as intended and/or not earning money. It can be members not being able to sign up, or webmasters not being able to access content due to access errors.

The isn't 404 - agree, but In my book its downtime.

My initial question was also "is it worth it to save $50 a month?" to set things in perspective. I did not say "don't do it"
