Im a season ticket holder for the Blazers sit in the 5th row courtside right behind the Cheerleaders. Few feet from the court.

Whats a good camera to get for maximum exploitation of the cheerleaders and to get some good pics of Greg Oden?

Also my kid is almost two now and hes getting more active. My point and shoot digital is having a harder time keeping up and giving me the quality I want.

I want to get something that is nice. Digital SLR was a thought. But Id hate to take something so big to a game...

In terms of SLR I was looking at the Canon 30D.. But I dont think its needed? Maybe over kill?

Then I was looking at something like this. Its not an SLR but a step up from the point and shoot.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh9/
or the Canon G7.

I want to continue to provide GFY with better pics this upcoming season.

Thanks..
I dont want heavy hitting AaronM kinda technology, but would like to know of some suggestions for a better camera.

The still pics look ok with the point and shoot.. But some of the action shots Id like more zoom. Something that can capture the action better.

I can catch good pics when the players arent moving around. Like at the freethrow line.

But when they get moving the noise in the pic is really bad. Many times there is a wave or blur instead of an actual body in the pic.

So im thinking.
Do I get a SLR? Looking at the Canon 30d or Nikon D80

http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-came...&tag=pdtl-list

or are they overkill??

Would just a minor upgrade to a Canon G7 or Sony H9 be enough?

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh9/

OR

Canon G7
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...odeli d=14321

I dont really want to lug around a pro camera around town to take pics..

Although GFY does like my BP4L family Lifestyle pics.

Here is a good example..

I use the zoom on the camera.. Fuck with some of the settings And the colors are depleated.

Notice the difference.

A waste of a potentially good picture.

LOL.. This is what I already have..

I have the new Canon Elph 800IS..

And a 3 year old Sony Cybershot.

Both arent really giving me the best of quality.

Especially with sports and moving shots.

AS do I.

But I want to bring GFY BETTER pics for next season..

My current pocket sized cameras arent doing it for me.

Im just wondering if I need to jump up to SLR? Or if I can go inbetween what I already have and the slr range and get this?

It has a power zoom which is what is attracting me..

With an SLR, its my understanding to get the pics I want I have to screw on some big expensive lens?

I'm curious as well. I have a Canon 20D which is awesome, but isn't too good for taking out into a crowd. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread.

http://www.picturecorrect.com/camera..._h9_review.htm

im still thinking this is what i need. its new and marketed to soccer moms wanting to shoot sports..

Or in my case as you call them action "crotch shots".

and its not too bulky to draw attention LIKE AN SLR WITH A 10 INCH LENS.

Id like to be able to zoom in more with clarity during the half time shows as well..

I think that factor would make the choice for me if I knew I could zoom in with clarity.

At the moment thats about as good as it gets.

Unless im in my other seats, this is about as good as it gets..

Id like to be able to have a good QUALITY zoom..

Either by SLR lens, or by a less bulky Sony option as ive been talking about.

Where the hell are my photographers?

And Mel's Boobs..

But when she jumps and as they bounce, I need a good camera that can freeze them for a clear picture.

if you're gonna keep it for a long time and use a lot of the features, mess with different lenses, etc.. I would go with canon slr or nikon slr.. you will have much more accessories to go with (lenses, filters, etc)... pref canon - their navi is a lot easier to use and they are great cameras.. i personally do not sony cameras at all
