I have to admit, one of the funniest "racial jokes" I ever heard came from that flick:

There's these three guys walking on the beach, a spic, a white guy, and a black guy.

They find this pot, rub it, and a genie comes out. The genie says, "You can wish for whatever you want."

So he asks the Mexican what he wants, and he says "I want all my people in America to be happy and free, and in Mexico." So the genie goes poof. It's done.

Then he says to the black guy... "What do you want?" "I want all my black brothers to be back in Africa, and happy and free and everything." So the genie goes poof. And they're all back in Africa.

So he says to the white guy, "What's your one wish?" And the white guy says, "Wait, you mean to tell me that all the spics and blacks are out of America?"

The genie goes yeah, and the white guy says, "uh, I'll have a Coke, then."

I heard about all the trouble and hearache the guy who made this film went through. He was an asshole, but he had a dream and he made it come true. But he should have remembered that you should never tie any dreams to tightly to hollywood

I haven't seen the movie but I did watch the documentary "Overnight" which follows the writer on a nightmarish ride. It was tough to watch but interesting to see what happened. Basically the documentary is a bunch of raw footage his friends shot and put together. It has all the behind the scenes stuff.

"OVERNIGHT begins as the classic Cinderella story when Boston-bred bartender and budding filmmaker Troy Duffy sells his screenplay, ?The Boondock Saints,? to Harvey Weinstein of Miramax Films. A bidding war gets Duffy much more than a hefty check; it also gets him the right to direct the film plus a deal for his band to produce and perform its soundtrack. Then, in a gesture straight out of a fairy tale, Weinstein offers to buy Duffy the very bar in which he works, turning the young man and his yet-to-be-made movie into overnight sensations.

Buoyed by his prospects, Duffy allows his then-colleagues Smith and Montana to document his conquest of Hollywood but, from their uniquely intimate perspective, what they captured was quite the opposite: following several months of restless development and reckless missteps, Duffy slides from A-List to blacklist. Calls go un-returned, his film is dropped by Miramax, is revived by a minor company at half its original budget, then ultimately consigned to the video bins. Midnight comes for Cinderella?"
