"Power is supplied by the City of Niagara Falls (Ontario) Hydro Commission. It is estimated that the cost of illuminating the Falls including the services of an operator is approximately $85 per hour."

"In 1997 and 1998, new fixtures replaced the outdated lamps and fixtures at the Illumination Tower, doubling the intensity of the lights on the Falls without doubling the hydro bills. Currently a total of twenty-one xenon lights, each with a 76-cm (30 in) diameter, are used to illuminate the Falls in a rainbow of colours. Eighteen are located at the Illumination Tower, beside the Queen Victoria Place and three are located below street level in the gorge opposite the American Falls. Each of the xenon spotlights produces more than 390 million peak beam and has a brilliance of 250 million candlepower."

LEDs are the way to go.
A structure like that is never completely "practical;" it serves a valuable role as a symbol.
If such a property isn't lit properly, it isn't much of a symbol.Comment

If poor people want money perhaps they should get better jobs?
People with money paid for those lights and paid for them on the basis of how much they could afford... You know... that whole part of taxes where I pay 30% so some low-life dishwasher with 6 kids can pay 18% or $1,800 and then claim Earned Income Credit and get back $3,500 of my fucking money.
Yeah... Light up the entire skyline for all I care... at least it might bring in some tourist money and reinvigorate the economy with all of the new jobs that it creates. Probably need some permits for that too... Even more money.Comment

So...to you...there's only two issues - lighting the CN Tower or poor people. If poor people want money perhaps they should get better jobs?

How about properly funding the mentally disabled that are currently roaming our streets after so many mental health facilities have been shut down across the province.
How about additional funding for veteran rehabilitation?
How about our more money for our shoddy road infrastructure?
I wasn't suggesting handing more money over to a bunch of welfare bums. I'm thinking more in terms of deserving priorities.Comment
