This is a very strange situation it seems from the lack of details.

The only fact I saw stated was the deaths didn't involve gunshot wounds.

Based on them saying it didn't involve gunshots, I'd also rule out they were stabbed or other violent crimes or why would they hide it?

I see two possible scenarios:

1) Benoit's wife died due to illness she reportedly had Saturday and when Benoit came home to find that, he committed suicide. However this doesn't explain anything about his son.

2) Something happened and Benoit's son was killed, Benoit came home to find out and in rage killed his wife, then took his own life.

There is the third option of a break-in/murder but supposedly they live in an area which had 0 murder investigations all of 2006 and practically no crime. Also if this was the case it would have been stated I'd believe.

IX-Gal 06-25-2007 08:33 PM

Very shocking news.

Fap 06-25-2007 08:35 PM

never was into wrestling but if this is true that's horrible..

If you read the Yahoo link http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070626/.../wrestler_dead
they are now investigating it as a murder/suicide...they think he killed his wife and kid, and then himself. :(

Scott McD 06-25-2007 09:40 PM

Dayyyuuummmm, fucked up..... :-(

Red Ezra 06-25-2007 09:42 PM

I'm watching monday night raw now - it's sad to see all these wrestlers all torn up over this - no one knows wtf - it is a big mystery - he was loved by friends and fans - how could someone do this to their family? If the yahoo report is true that is some bad, bad, news man.

SPACE GLIDER 06-25-2007 09:45 PM

You have vince JOKING about death, and then something like this happens

tehHinjew 06-25-2007 09:46 PM

how does that work? right before a fight you tell your boss, i gota fly to atlanta asap its an emergancy, then kill them?!
i find it hard to beleive

shekinah 06-25-2007 10:34 PM

Is that for real??? that's kinda shocking and sad!::(

pornask 06-25-2007 10:48 PM

They are still investigating. Sports Illustrated have the same news as yahoo. That might explain information embargo by police. Maybe that's what's happening - everything leads them to believe that it was a murder-suicide, but they want to make sure they have some relevant evidence in their hands, so they're simply not releasing any info yet. They know this was going to be a high profile topic and even though everything sugests it's murder-suicide, they need to play it safe and continue with investigation before any official statement is released. Why otherwise would they keep it such a secret? It's a high profile case that gets tons of coverage.

Red Ezra 06-25-2007 11:24 PM

who 06-26-2007 03:54 AM

Hooly dooly! I used to watch him wrestle

thehand 06-26-2007 05:54 AM

Well it seems to be true:(

Kevsh 06-26-2007 06:08 AM

It almost certainly was a double-murder/suicide ... an astonishing shame if true as Benoit was so well-respected in and out of the ring.

Ravage 06-26-2007 06:15 AM

What a way to fuck up the McMahon hit storyline. WTG Benoit! j/k

Sad, sad news. Its been a long time since I watched wrestling, but Benoit was one of my favs back in WCW when he was in the Four Horseman with Flair, Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman.

Its really sad when a young child gets caught up in this shit. :(

I'm glad McMahon actually took the high road and cancelled Raw. I believe this is the first time he has done that. When Owen Hart and Brian Pillman died, he still went on with the shows.

Dirty Dane 06-26-2007 06:17 AM

never heard of him, but RIP

Hey, if you want to use television as your primary source of self-education, that's fine, really. However, you'll be doing society a solid if you'd not try and pass your new found "knowledge" on as gospel. Society thanks you in advance.

Boobs 06-26-2007 07:18 AM

they changed their name from WWF to WWE to avoid problems with some wildlife foundation that had the "WWF" before they did.. so they changed it to World Wrestling Entertainment

RIP Chris Benoit, I always loved him in the Four Horsemen

- Local authorities found the bodies of Chris, Nancy, and Daniel at 2:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon after. Initial evidence has led authorities to believe Nancy and Daniel were killed sometime during the weekend, then Benoit killed himself on Monday.

I think that in addition to the WWW family reeling in shock, they were also in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Had the show went on with the incident swept under the rug, the organization would have been vilified. This tragedy aside, fans loved Benoit.

Add to that, that at the time RAW aired, every AP story I read was saying that the family was found slain, with no mention of the murder/suicide angle.

I don't know what WWE could have done differently in regards to last night's show.

I hear that. It's sad alot of stuff that goes on.

http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/26/benoit...ails-revealed/

TMZ has learned more about the deaths of WWE wrestling superstar Chris Benoit, his wife and son -- and the information is extremely disturbing.

Several Atlanta-based law enforcement sources have told TMZ Benoit may have strangled his wife on Saturday, then smothered his son in his bed a day later. Investigators refuse to officially comment, pending final confirmation by the coroner on the cause and time of the deaths.

One source told TMZ that Benoit was texting friends during Sunday's WWE "Vengeance" Pay-Per-View program -- possibly watching the show with his son, who may have been alive at the time.

According to sources, Benoit then hanged himself Monday in a weight room inside the family home.

A police investigation is ongoing.

This is so tragic and can't believe! I've been a fan of Benoit and this is so sad for me... :( He's been one of the greatest wrestler I've ever known.

selena 06-26-2007 09:52 AM

This on CNN as a developing story.

"A law enforcement official close to the investigation tells The Associated Press that pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room."

boneprone 06-26-2007 09:55 AM

Yeah just sad..

Unreal.. I enjoyed Benoit as an entertainer. Maybe one of my favorites..

Sad he was such a mess in real life..

Real disturbing.

boneprone 06-26-2007 09:56 AM

Maybe this is a WWE storyline?

selena 06-26-2007 09:59 AM

The munchkin just called, and he is so upset. I keep him pretty sheltered, and he is just blown away by the fact that someone he idolized killed his own son. :(

I hate this for him.

thehand 06-26-2007 10:24 AM

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its website that it asked authorities to check on the wrestler and his family after being alerted by friends who received ?several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning.?

The bodies were found in three different rooms: Benoit in the home?s weight room, his wife in an office and the son in an upstairs bedroom, Whiteside said. Benoit had two other children from a prior relationship.

Stamford, Conn.,-based WWE also said on its website it had further information on the deaths, but had been asked by authorities not to release it.

Benoit, who was born in Montreal, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

At five-foot-11 and 220 pounds, Benoit was often described as a rabid wolverine in the ring. ?The Canadian Crippler? had a chiselled physique and was known for his superior technical skills.

The ?Crippler Crossface? was one of his signature moves, along with a flying headbutt from the top rope and triple German suplex.

Fellow wrestlers admired Benoit?s hard-nosed attitude.

?Chris was the type of guy you?d want to go to war with,? said WWE champion John Cena. ?He was a good man, he truly lived for the business. He did everything for it.?

Benoit held several titles over his career but realized his dream at Wrestlemania 20 in 2004, defeating Shawn Michaels and champion Triple H in a triple threat match at Madison Square Garden to win the WWE world heavyweight championship for the first time.

Benoit?s wife managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, ?Woman,? The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing story line on World Championship Wrestling, the newspaper said.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the ?Vengeance? pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called ?personal reasons.?

Benoit became a standout at an early age among many wrestling prospects who trained in the famed dungeon basement of the home where fellow Canadians and professional wrestlers Owen and Bret Hart trained.

Owen Hart was killed in a freak stunt accident during a wrestling pay-per-view event in 1999.

?He was like a family member to me, and everyone in my family is taking it real hard,? Bret Hart, a five-time champion with the now-defunct World Wrestling Federation, said. ?It?s almost like reliving the whole Owen (Hart) death over again.?

Benoit maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE cancelled its live ?Monday Night RAW? card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

The tribute began with WWE chairman Vince McMahon standing in the middle of an empty ring, eyes welling up with tears and voice cracking as he broke the news of Benoit?s death.

?We at the WWE can only offer our condolences to the extended family of Chris Benoit,? said McMahon. ?The only other thing we can do at this moment is pay tribute to Chris Benoit.?

In a statement posted on it?s website, the WWE said it ?extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family?s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy.?
