What would make this ability despicable is if the translating culture seeks to impose an interpretation that belies its desire to subjugate the original transmitters of the cultural product. See Edward Said's book, ORIENTALISM. Other than that, getting your panties bunched up over whites "appropriating" "authentic" and "genuine" black music is like pissing in the wind---pointless drama.
