A home owner question does this quote seem about right?
Was quoted $1500 parts and labor to replace the air handler on my upstairs system its a lennox heat pump and would be replaced with the same brand. We are only doing the air handler. Wrote some people to get quotes wanted to see if thats good or bad?

Depends on the model of course, but it doesn't sound ridiculous. I've seen 1200 - 4000 prices for similar.

Looks about right, I am switching out my system and got a few quotes, 1500 would be about middle of the road.

thats why you buy new - sell after 2-4 yrs and take the equity and put it in another new home.
I dont have problems with my home. But then again its only had one owner... me.. |

Yeah, that's my situation. I feel the OP's pain . . . but I bought my condo new 2 1/2 years ago for this very reason. I have a 10 yr mortgage balloon (amortized over 30 yrs tho), so when it's time to refinance in 2015, I figure I'll just sell the fucker because shit starts to wear down after 10 years--if not sooner.

I should probably do that, I just finished my second year in a new home I had built. However, I've done so much customization and spent a ton finally getting everything how I like it, I can't imagine moving for a long time.

We're THOUSANDS into the heat pump this year alone .. I don't think it sounds out-of-line.

Well if you go all out then you may not get as much return on the investment, I just put in new corian countertops, was going to get all new cabinets in my kitchen also but at $20k I did not think I would get it back on the resell... my next house will probably be my last, I am looking around at 3-5 acre properties to build a custom home on, I want to have like a second master bedroom, with shower and walk-in closet for my new daughter. with the money I get off this house I should be able to get what I want and pay for most of it in cash.

Tony sounds about right. If you want and you know the model feel free to hit me up. My dad has owned a heating and cooling business since 1974. So since I was 1 ;) Be glad to give him a call and see if its a fair price for you.
