The amateurs I work with have all contacted me. The people who will be good to work with don't need much enticement. You just need your reputation to be out there as someone who is good to work with, doing the kind of stuff the models are interested in.

What I do is put ads in local publications. Some require it to be in their "adult section", while others put it right into the employment section.

A small ad usually costs me between 50 and 100 dollars for a small classified ad.

I clearly state in the ad that we're seeking models for adult/erotic work.

I also visit strip clubs and pass my card around. If your professional, have real facts on what your shooting, dancers are sometimes interested. Have to remember that these girls here it 100 times. So you have to be on your A game and play it very professional. In a previous post, gothWeb was talking about reputation. That is important! If your not professional and try to use the situation to hit on a girl it will get around. Your best way to get talent to come back to you and send their friends is by keeping things professional and relaxed. Amateur talent can be easily spooked.

Seriously - I nearly did.

Even after I left my computer, I was sitting down watching TV and suddenly I just think "carrote" and start laughing.

I was on the phone with a friend and suddenly a "carrote" would pop into my head and I'd start laughing. Then my friend thinks I'm nuts.

I was in my kitchen eating brownie bits and drinking milk (munchies hit) when suddenly I remembered the "carrote" and, of course, I started laughing again.

yeah thats the way it usually works here too priest....see a heap of ads in the employment pages for nude models and a few publications in aus dedicate themselves to that kind of thing so there is pretty much a thriving market out there if u look. Swingers mags also have a lot of ads over here for models and photographers....never replied to one tho.....dont think the worlds ready for my bits yet

I just run ads in the local alternative paper for most of my girls and now I have enough that they are starting to refer other girls. The local college paper is also fertile ground if you are looking for younger amateurs.

Just be specific in what you are looking for.

Yes sir...You make me want to give you advice too. Read the name of the board then take a hike if you don't like it.

gothweb gave you advice based on a decent reputation. I am responding to your 2nd post to this board and at this point, your rep is not off to a good start. If you can not handle a little fun from the people on GFY without flipping out then you sure as hell have no business shooting nude models.

Which is why those places suck to run ads in. You need to stand out....How can you really do that with 80 other ads looking for the same thing? There are better places to advertise if you look around.

Let's pretend for a moment that you are joking...The sad thing is that there are a number of content providers that actually do this, and worse.

I can not imagine why they would want to deal with the nightmares that occur under these conditions.

I find a couple of joints followed by tequila shots works just great!

But really, in all seriousness, I agree that professionalism is the key to getting new amateur models, especially if they've never posed before. If you act like some Jerk with a camera and a hard on and they will avoid you like Paul Rubens in a Movie Theatre!

If you want amatuers you have to go where they are, amatuer night at Strip Clubs, Bikini Contests etc. Get yourself a PROFESSIONAL looking business card with 100% real information on it and whatever you do BE HONEST! Don't lie about your experience or you will be sorry!

When I decided to get into photography 2 years ago that's the clientelle I was shooting for, doing promo stuff for amateur strippers. I did the photography and designed killer posters, keychains etc. for the girls. Of course they were used to the same old 35mm "Funsaver" shit that their boyfriends shot, so they were pretty much blown away by what I gave them. I made it look like they spent thousands of dollars instead of just a couple hundred... So word got out that I was good and before you knew it I was getting approached my dancers left and right! Dude, you want to talk ego boost? Try walking into a Strip Club on amateur night and having 80% of those girls sitting at your table buying YOU drinks all night! I've nearly been lynched more than once...

FUCK if I'd had 1/10th of the connections then that I do now, I'd be one rich motherfucker! But anyway, you treat the girls like gold, make them feel like godesses before, during and after a shoot and they'll tell their friends about you. Conversely, if you act like a letch, treat the girls like cattle and try to fuck every single one of them, put your head between your legs and kiss your ass GOODBYE because word will spread like wildfire and nobody will want to work with you.

I don't know what your level of Photography experience is, (Beginner, Amateur, Advanced Amateur, Semi-Pro, Pro, you know what fstops are) So another piece of advice, if you don't have a light rig right now, (Key, fill, hair light, reflectors, soft boxes, diffusers etc.) GET ONE. Or at least rent some lights for your shoots and learn how to use them! (45 degree angles & you're all set.) If you snag a feature dancer and actually get them to your house/studio and your entire Photography equipment consists of a camera and a blanket, odds are they'll walk. But if you've got the right lights and they're set up well, you're going to look like a champ, not a chump! Just like I said before, DON'T FRONT YOURSELF!!! If you're a beginner Photographer, TELL THEM! Lying about your experience will fuck you up faster than Oprah Winfrey on a Turkey leg!

As a Professional Photographer, nothing disappoints me more than seeing a beautiful amateur model look like total shit because the "Photographer" obviously didn't have a CLUE what he/she was doing! Invest just a couple of hundred bucks in just TWO 250 watt Photo Floods and some diffusion material and you'd be AMAZED how good your shots will look! You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on Professional light equipment (But you should, heheh) to get good results, but look at it from the model's point of view, would you pose nude for some guy calling himself a photographer that doesn't even have a single strobe? I think not! Passion is Art so make art your passion! Ok I'm done. Hope I helped a bit...

Jesus it took me so long to write my post I didn't see that last comment, I agree with you AaronM, considering this is gofuckyourself.com and everyone here has something to do with adult entertainment, of course you're going to get smartass remarks, Hell none of us would bother coming here if there weren't! Ok I WAS joking about the pot & tequila thing, nothing will get you busted faster than "Inducement" like that! I make sure that every model that works for me signs a release, a non disclosure agreement and a binding contract which states that they agree to show up to each shoot in a sober and receptive condition, which includes NOT being hung over, etc. They can do whatever the Hell they want to AFTER the shoot. I mean who wants to look at pictures of some chick who's face is all caved in from smoking dope all day? Or worse, Ive had strippers show up for shoots on the tail end of a 3 day crack bender... Can we say eeewww???

It does not work that way in most places in the states. I know that Montreal is different...So are a few other places such as L.A. but not MOST cities here.

Most of the girls I shoot are amateurs...NEVER been shot before....They do not have a "Rate" and if you are the kind of person who likes dealing with drama of strippers then their "rates" will be outrages.

Back in the day, I shot good looking girls for $50 a day. They were not only happy but they referred their friends who got the same pay.

Strippers = problems
Drugs/Booze = problems
Spoiling the models = problems

Just treat the models with respect. The most important thing is for you to have confidence. A first time amateur will run out the door if you are shaky in your presentation.

Oh shit man you want Horror Stories? Here's one. I was chasing this headliner chick for about 2 months before she finally agreed to the shoot. So I got the studio booked, lighting assistants hired, everything set up and ready to go. What I didn't know was that this chick was a recovering heroin addict and was on the wagon. She showed up looking like someone had just given her CPR, took 2 hours (OF STUDIO TIME) to get ready (And that was WITH a stylist) and here's the fun part. Remember in trainspotting about how Heroin makes you constipated? Remember the Suppository thing? Remember the dude in his girlfriend's bed? Do I need to finish this story?

Anyway, YOU try paying to have a 60x60 foot dyed muslin background cleaned of human waste... AND SHE STILL WANTED TO GET PAID!!! Needless to say, I gave up on that kind of thing and have just been doing just photo editing until recently. I think I'm ready to shoot again, the nightmares are almost gone...

Not me. If they show up fucked up then they are not even let in. I have been around other shooter..some of them even post here...who let their models drink or smoke out before and during shoots. Then they wonder why it took 5 hours to shoot 4 simple sets and why the girls have shitty attitudes.

Dude, what city are you in? I'm relocating to Vancouver next month so I'm kind of on shooting hiatus until I get there & I'll be taking lots of trips to Montreal to scout, is there anything I should know before I go? (Besides the fact that Quebecers hate anglophones?)

& I agree with everything else you had to say as well, despite what people like Max Hardcore (Oops, was that liable?) might have you believe, showing your girls respect will do you nothing but good!

I live in Portland, Oregon but I shoot all over North America.

You seem to be on the ball so I would have no problems talking shop with you on ICQ but I try to limit the advice I give on these boards. The next thing you know there is a wave of fly-by-nite content providers who don't have their shit together and end up fucking it up for the rest of us.

LOL did I say strippers? I meant "Exotic Entertainers" yeah, that's it! Oh man, you obviously know what I'm lamenting over... Been there, done that, got the god damn T shirt. "Professional" dancers are the absolute WORST to try to work with, you want to talk attitude? They make a 2 hour shoot seem like an 8 hour one...

no no...It realy did take 8 hours by the time they were done complaining, taking breaks, eating...then complaining about the "pooch" from the meal they had, doing their hair, answering their cell phone that you asked them to turn off, attempting to re-negotiate the terms of the shoot....Shall I go on?

Sounds good broddah, my icq is 115575580, drop me a line when you have a second or two...

See, there's the difference, I look at most "Content Providers" as different than "Photographers".

(WARNING! IMPENDING RANT!)

Now don't take offense guys, I don't mean to slight anyone at all here, but it seems that a certain percentage of content providers are only interested in cranking out pictures with little or no regard to artistic license or creativity at all, they just snap and snap and snap until they get their quota and yell "Next!" Kind of like the guys in High School that made sure to have 500 words in their essays with no regard for what was IN it...

I'm not up on some high horse here and I don't mean to cast aspersions at my contemporaries but FUCK does it irritate me to look at what could have been a beautiful set of pictures get shot to shit because the shooter either doesn't have the proper equipment or simply doesn't give a damn. There is no excuse for poor quality pictures. If you can afford to pay a model you can afford to rent some lights! Quantity does NOT equal quality and yes, these fly-by-night-funsaver shooters really are fucking it up for those of us who take the art of Photography seriously! But then that's just me, I could be wrong... (Apologies to Dennis Miller)

On the flip side.....I have clients who tell me that they want the content ot look even more amateur than it already does. I have had them get upset because the lighting is not shitty enough.

Not everybody wants studio lighting...That is why I am here.....and doing quite well.

Have you been spying on me or something? Why oh WHY do these chicks have to eat KFC or something equally as bloating before or during a shoot? Lets not forget the oh-so-above-you-little-camera-man attitude... Well it's nice to know I'm not alone in the HELL that Photography can be...

I too hope to soon be "there"... I just have to find the damn map...

I've heard of clients like that... I should have mentioned that in my little rant there instead of generalizing so much. Yes it's true that some people want crappy looking pictures, I can't think of any logical reason why, but you gotta do what the client wants...

Ok I take back PART of what I said in my previous post... I still prefer natural light anyway... Just bought a 52" Soft Gold/White PhotoFlex reflector and DAMN what a difference it makes!

Nope, I still can't think of any reason why anyone would want... Waitaminute, these are probably guys that WANT the crappy pictures so they can say they're all done by "Normal" people, thereby making them more desireable to their members... See? I figured it out all by myself! And maybe if I'm lucky I can figure out how to get my VCR to stop blinking 12:00 someday too!

Actually, you are. I do not shoot strippers anymore because of this. Plus, there is no bigger group of flakes, in the adult industry, than strippers.

Fuck waiting for them to show up. If you can not be on time then don't bother setting the appointment in the fisrt place.

About your thoughts on the "oh-so-above-you-little-camera-man attitude".....That is why they have to bum money to pay a driver to take them to work and I own 3 cars and 2 boats. If they are all that then why are they prancing around on a stage for one dollar bills?

Ok, I've decided I like you. I thought I was the only jaded Photog around here, it's good to be amongst one's peers, even if my only vehicle right now is a Mountain Bike... Ok it's a $4000.00 Mountain Bike but there you go...

HELL NO I won't shoot strippers anymore, I already have a number of models lined up for me out in Vancouver thanks to my partner who's already out there scouting & if only half of them actually go through with it I'll be ecstatic! Flaky? Shit man I could have opened a fucking BAKERY with the talent I had to work with!

Nope, if I'm looking for amatuers sure I'll hit the strip bars on amatuer night & try to recruit them before the business fucks them up too badly, but I'll never shoot another feature dancer again, EVER. Ok I gotta get back to work...
