High quality digital camera....

i went to photography class and they said we could use digital so i dont need to buy a 35mm. the only thing is that i need a camera that has manual mode like manual shutter speed and fstop. can someone recommend a good camera with those features?

I got Nikon D100, it's definetly out of the $500 range but it's as close to a 36mm SLR as it gets. I almost creamed myself when I opened it up.

You might wanna check out Fuji FinePix 2800 Zoom. I got this one too and it gives you enough control to ... uumm, feel in control.

I think you'll find a lot of digitals have manual mode. I favor the Olympus models. I have a C-3000, C-3040, and C-4040 and adore the look of the photos.

I have a canon D30 and love it. I suggest checking out http://www.dpreview.com before buying any digital camera!

If you want to buy the Olympus: Wait one month. There will be a new camera called C-5050.

The price of the C-4040 will go down after they released the new camera.

Something about the other digital cameras in that price range:

Nikon Coolpix cameras are okay, but a little bit too expensive.
Sonys are good for nature and holiday photography, but not for shooting nude girls. The reason: The skin colour is very bad.
Fuji is okay. Try the new 602. This camera looks like a little SLR 35mm camera and the skin tone is good, because the pictures are a little bit soft.
