    Another blog SEO question

Hey everyone, this might be a stupid question, but I don't really know how to search for the answer if it has already been asked. When setting up a new blog, is it better to have more posts on the main index so that more words are scanned by the bots or does it not really matter? I like the way my blog looks with 5 posts instead of 10, but I don't think many porn surfers really care how good a site looks as long as it has quality content. Any thoughts?

I think more important than number of posts on the main page is the update frequency. SEs like sites that come with new content often (are often updated). If your blog is properly optimized with quality internal links, so the spiders can get to older posts without problems, you will not have a problem. In order for search engines to like you, you will need to update often, hence it doesn't really matter as much how many posts you keep on the main page, since they will go off it soon with frequent posting.

PS - content is king, that is true

Thanks for the info. Another question for everyone, is updating 2 times a day considered a lot? I try to post 1 update that comes out at midnight and one that comes out later in the afternoon. I don't get a lot of hits yet, but my blog has only been up for a couple of days, I figure that when it does get regular visitors that a couple of posts a day will keep the content fresh. Thoughts?

I think 2 updates a day will keep the search engines fairly happy. Make sure you have basic on page SEO done (meta tags, alt tags for images, title as a heading, keywords in the URL, etc.) and offer the surfers a way to bookmark your posts with social bookmarking services (such as Digg, del.icio.us, reddit, etc)for incoming links and some extra traffic. Also make sure you have some sort of pinging script in place to let people know you made a new post and a google sitemap would also be a plus.
