not true at all, NOT TRUE

go to any big dj show these days and you will ALWAYS see a laptop come out, ALWAYS

in fact, the past few shows that I have opened for larger names, it is always a BITCH because when they come up to get ready they always have to find places for their laptops and shit...annoying shit

I don't think so . Think about Sasha => one of the popular dj's He's using only Ableton Live but this is not the option . A good Dj knows how to handle turntables and software .
In my opinion you should try to use Ableton Live for mixing .It's very simple and efficient

Using serato is another option but for this one you need some turntables

depends on how and what you are using the laptop for

lots of dj's use traktor, but they use it in the same sense as a turntable

then if software is cheating, wouldn't using cd decks technically be cheating also?

there is so much innovation in the world of djing, I would hate to see the crowds get let down because someone isn't using all that new technology to their advantage

one cool show I saw recently here in town, the dj used all dvds for his set and mixed those dvds with two big screens behind him....when he backtracked on the dvd, the video also did

it was a really cool experience to watch an dance to

no real djs use laptops. we use vinyl. even the pros that have switched to sinal scratch i have lost respect for. yey for innovation. boooo for nostalgia.

two technics and a mixer and some headphones is the only way to go.

now if you are talking about producing, thats a different story. there are many software programs to use along with producing stuff.

true. i wish we could go back to when it was only the people that had the heart for it and had to learn how to mix and shit. turntables and a mixer.

you're right, i get so pissed when i go out to clubs and hear some asshole club manager or something djing cuz he downloaded some shit to his laptop and trainwrecks every mix all night. its terrible.

Nope, not these days. The top DJ's are rocking serato and a laptop full of music.

Even some former vinyl enthusiasts are switching over. Rob Swift for example

I don't really know shit about DJing, but it seems a dj using a laptop is kinda like a racer using an automatic transmission...

i dont mind see'n a laptop as long as the dj is actually mixing records in with it....but it's annoying when dudes just turn on a laptop then bail out to burger king and let the whole set play itself...

Theres just a lot you can do with software that just isnt possible, otherwise.

There are good DJ's and bad DJ's, and they can come in the vinyl flavor or the laptop flavor. Good DJ's mix, and create.. bad DJ's are human jukeboxes. The tools they use dont make them good or bad.. good tools can make good DJ's better... good tools dont turn a bad DJ good

the new technologies are slick, just not nostalgic, i have played on serrato. djing is a labor of love. going to the record store, sifting through record bins, having the vinyl in your hand. i have never let down a crowd using two decks and a mixer so i don't see technology having anything to do with how the song is played through the equipment, all that new stuff does is put more crappy djs in the clubs because their uncle is the manager or owner or the guy used to be the bar manager and now he jacked a bunch of songs online and got himself a final scratch. i watched it happen in front of my face here on the west coast. everyone wants the stigma of being a dj, but no one wants to pay the price in effort.

2cents.

dr jones says it well above me. i know people who suck on vinyl too, but its so expensive they give up.

i could go on for days but i won't bore you my rant.

one issue with that is the decline of vinyl production...for every one record that comes out, there are 10 tracks that will never be put on vinyl...

not to mention almost record "stores" have closed shop, and when I order online by the time I have gotten the vinyl, so has everyone else because there are so many people shopping at all the exact same stores online

My ideal dj setup is two turntables, two cd decks and a mixer....I can do without everthing else, even though it is fun to have a laptop and shit there,
