Emily thrown out of Big Brother

Emily Parr has been removed from the Big Brother house for using a racially offensive word to another housemate.
The 19-year-old from Bristol was taken out of the compound at 0330 BST and was forbidden from having any further contact with the 11 other contestants
spokeswoman for Channel 4 said that the decision had been taken because "such behaviour won't be tolerated".

This week's eviction vote, in which Emily was nominated along with Shabnam Paryani, has been suspended.

Regret

Channel 4 said the offensive term was not broadcast in the programme during a live stream, and was immediately reported to senior production staff.

The incident will be aired as part of the Big Brother highlights show on Channel 4 on Thursday night.

The broadcaster has said the word will not be bleeped out the first time it is used to give the context of the conversation, but will be cut thereafter.

Emily said: "Are you pushing it out, you hahahahahaha?" to Charley Uchea, while they were dancing in the living room on Wednesday evening.

Indian-born Nicky Maxwell, who was also present, said to Emily: "Erm, I can't believe you just said that."

Charley said "You are in trouble", adding she was "in shock".

Emily replied: "Don't make a big thing out of it... I was joking."

In consultation with broadcast executives, the decision was taken to remove Emily from the house because she had breached rules governing contestant behaviour.

well, this is not about the show right? but about someone being 'penalized' for such careless action.racisim really is a serious issue..she could have done that carelessly and not maliciously as said in the article, but unfortunately she's on national TV..she's pretty though..

Come on ...from a buisness perspective they had to kick her off right after they got smacked for hiding a racial slur last time. I agree that it wasn't anything but her being dumb but the buisness that is channel 4 needed to cover their ass.

Not to mention I bet they were all seriously drilled before going in about not using any questionable words after the whole Shilpa mess.

Yes but you obviously don't live in the UK where he - and I - live and the show is being shown. If you did you would know that Big Brother is a huge deal over here and so much so that in the celeb version last year where we had real racism surface the story became *the* story for weeks and caused international incidents between the UK and India.

So, as good as you can feel about being smug...he is right..the papers in the UK would go nuts on her. I do realise that not all papers in the world are from the UK but I don't think a person in the UK is wrong for commenting on the situation in the UK. *rolls eyes*

i see everyone posting N**** as a substitute for the offending word, not the actual word (and considering the language used in here about a great many things, including women, I must laugh at it).

I understand not calling someone this word, but using it in context to describe a situation or incident, or discussing the word itself is adult and acceptable, albeit a bit uncomfortable for some.
