MPEG editing software...

Can anyone reccomend some good mpeg editors? I'm not all that video saavy as of yet, but learning...so I don't want something really complicated. I'm mainly looking for something where I can do some minor editing/splicing, screen caps, general clean up, etc. I've tried MyFlix & TMPGEnc Plus, but not exactly what I'mn looking for...tho TMPGEnc Plus is pretty damn close. I'd prefer something where I can try out a trial download first to see if I like it...

Any suggestions?

I typically like to use Adobe Premiere. It is a very solid editing application and there are tons of tutorials online to get you started. There are even some great bibles out there for this app, as well.

However I don't think you can download a trial. Check out the link below for more info.

Cool! Thanks everyone. I've been searching half the freakin' day & I am either getting software that's set up for the AOL type user or way too technical for me...nothing in between. I'll check out those links!

Yeah, I really like TMPGEnc but I can't get the file sizes down for the life of me. I can't figure out what I'm, doing wrong, so I figured I'd look into what else is out there...

Adjust the video bitrate according to how big you want the file...you can adjust the audio bitrate too, make it 64 k/bit a second, this cuts down the filesize a good bit...don't go any lower than that for audio unless you want your files to sound like they're under water.

Don't use any fancy codecs like divx or i263...most people can't view them until they download the codecs...and windows media player does a very poor job of searching and updating codecs.
Just use Plain ole' mpeg-1

Yeah, I tried adjusting the birate, but it just made the picture quality really bad & didn't bring the file size all that much at all.

Thanks for the input tho!

This Virtual Dub is pretty cool, but I don't see a way to save as MPEGs...just as AVI. Any suggestions?

Maybe try http://www.ush.de/avi2mpeg.htm to convert AVI's to MPEG's.
