    Amp'd Mobile Files For Bankruptcy

    Amp'd Mobile Files Chapter 11
Starting a new wireless carrier when you don't even own a network ain't easy ? just ask now-defunct ESPN Mobile, which tried to make a go of the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business and failed.

But it looks like wireless startup Amp'd Mobile is having an exceptionally difficult time. Last Friday, the MVNO, which rented out Verizon Wireless's network to provide a service that specialized in delivering wireless content to subscribers, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after running out of cash. According to mocoNews.net, which first reported the bankruptcy news, Amp?d owes about $33 million to Verizon, among other debts (its total debt is more than $100 million).

I couldn't even tell what they were. I wasn't sure if they were selling phones or service or what. The ads were just strange.

Actually I think those old people commercials were for Boost Mobile. Guess it doesn't help matters when people can't figure out if it's you or a competitor.

First. They had excellent ads. I say if you didn't know what they were advertising then you probably don't pay too much attention to ads (which is fine, i wish I could tune them out more often). Secondly, this is no big surprise. Their service was really expensive (at least in Canada it was). I think they over estimated the number of people willing to shell out money to watch tv and shit on their phones. Perhaps people will be interested in watching tv on their phone in the future, I think it was just too soon and too expensive right now.
