Just watch MTV for an hour.

Invasion of the body snatchers (1978) with Donald Sutherland
and Poltergeist (1982) Those 2 movies gave me quite a few creepy nightmares. ------------------ Those scared the shit out of me when I was 10 years old and then 14. I like the Shining. Not the scariest but my favorite in it's genre. Sykkboy's list MUST be good. Anyone remember ABC's 1983 made-for-TV movie "The Day After"? Now that was scary! |
Eru - I watched the ring sortive.
Japanese speaking and Cantonese subtitles - loads of fun not being able to understand anything. The girl coming out of the TV looked freaky though. I read about the American version and it does look terrible. No doubt they will botch it up. Too bad they couldn't use the Japanese movie and just dub the voices or put in English subtitles. I can't think of to many movies that actually scared me. The last semi-scary movie I saw was called: "Phantom" or Phantoms. (Don't rent a movie with a guy wearing a purple suit) Anyway watched it alone in the dark and thought it pretty good. Saw it again with some friends and it didn't seem a 10th as scary as I remembered it. |
The Predator - first time i watched it i got pretty scared.
|
Poltergeist scared the hell outta me to back when it came out, that clown scene really freaked me out, ha ha ha.
Nightmare On Elm Street also scared the hell outta me. I think that Hellraiser scares the shit outta me more than anything though. Fuck, 2 is freaky shit, even part 3 when they come to the city was crazy, like that nightclub scene where the chains come down and start sticking people, freaked the shit outta me. That dude that had the cd weapons was pretty nuts. |
I can't believe Rosemary's Baby has only been mentioned once in this thread... you tools have a lot of learning to do, if you think Jeepers Creepers was a good horror movie. Give me Mia Farrow in a phone booth any day of the week for pure heart-pounding terror.

Colin, my list is very long :) I agree with eru about The Ring being one fucked up ride of a movie....the American version will most likely suck ass.. If you like your movies bizarre, you can't go wrong with Tsui Hark's "Chinese Ghoststory" series...not really horror movies, but damn creepy and atmospheric... for a good chill, even though dated, a viewing of Phantasm is still a good call... like meaty foreign horror? The Blind Dead series is really good and of course you can't go wrong with Fulci's The Gates Of Hell or that bizarre opening overkill murder of Susperia or anything else that Argento dreams up.... for cheesy 80's thrills, grab a copy of The Crazies, Wolfen and the granddaddy motherfuckr of them all Friday The 13th (I know, a blatant homage/ripoff of Bava's Bay Of Blood but truly deserving of it's place in cinematic history... did someone say Zombie movies? Zombie, Night Of The Living Dead, Dead Alive and anything by Fulci.... scared to run with the Devil? The Exorcist, The Sentinel and Rosemary's Baby are good choices... Demons give ya the creeps? Well, my fellow GFYers, run to the video store and grab Night Of The Demons, Demons and Def By Temptation oh yeah and fuck The Sixth Sense that movie sucked all kinds of ass, Stir Of Echoes and The Others were 10 times better and without that little creepy Haley Joel Osmet (now HE scares me) |
exorcits
halloween - Mike Myers is the baddest horror movie bad guy ever Hellraiser Layer of the white worm- disturbing just fucking disturbing |

Talking about good scary movies you have to admit there are some really FUNNY scary movies out there too like Bride of Chuckie, Evil Dead 2, Young Frankenstein, Maximum Overdrive LoL
From Young Frankenstein: Igor: Dr. Frankenstein.... Dr. Froederick Frankenstein: "Fronkensteen." Igor: You're putting me on. Dr. Froederick Frankenstein: No, it's pronounced "Fronkensteen." Igor: Do you also say "Froaderick"? Dr. Froederick Frankenstein: No.... "Frederick." Igor: Well, why isn't it "Froaderick Fronkensteen"? Dr. Froederick Frankenstein: It isn't; it's "Frederick Fronkensteen." Igor: I see. Dr. Froederick Frankenstein: You must be Igor. [He pronounces it "ee-gor".] Igor: No, it's pronounced "eye-gor." Dr. Froederick Frankenstein: But they told me it was "ee-gor." Igor: Well, they were wrong, weren't they? |
The only good horror movie in my mind was
The Exorcist but thats just cause it was the only movie that frightened me:/ sucks to be me I guess:1orglaugh |
The Serpent And The Rainbow is the scariest movie that I have ever seen!!
It is about Voodoo, and some of it is based on a true story... I wont give anything away by telling you more, but if you really want to be creeped out, then watch that one for sure!! Anyone else seen it?? |

Ya he was
Good thing someone else saw it....every time I bring it up noone has even heard of it!! |
All of the Faces of Death movies are really cool. Gotta love real life killings caught on tape. Gruesome lol. Pretty rare to be able to find those though. Also for just regular movies I'd have to say Stir of Echoes lingers the best in my mind for being creepy. No such thing as a really scary movie however.
