I love ASUS, but I don't think I'd get my video card through them. Go PNY or something.

Go 6600 on the processor and double the ram, change HD to a samsung spinpoint and change to an antec p180 case. If you can afford it, go 8800GXT on the graphics card so you are set for DX10.

4GB looks enough to me? I can always buy more later... As far as the graphics card. This one is DX10 ready...(and I don't need a 'huge' card, I hardly play any games to begin with... I will look into the HDD and case. Thnx

The 8600GT is pretty slow compared to the overall performace of this PC, I'd definately go for at least a 8800 GTS (not the 320MB version).
4GB are way enough, I'd tend to save some money and just buy 2GB if you don't do alot of video processing or work with large files in photoshop. |

Up the power supply to at least 550W.
Go for a 8800 as well. The 320MB version isn't that bad and will do well. If you can afford the 640, go for it.

Yes, as well as the first generation dual cores.
I agree with others that you should get a beefier power supply - I recommend getting an Enermax, Athena, or OCZ For my money, Seagate is the way to go for HDDs, hands down - especially since they are all with 5 year standard warranties nowadays. And Kingston is good memory, but if you're look for performance-driven RAM, I'd go with Corsair or Mushkin. Hope that helps, but feel free to hit me up if you have any specific questions ![]() |

The Seagate is nice because of the five year warranty but the Hitachi is one of the fastest SATA drives you can get with out getting the WD Raptors.
You'll get faster performace from 2x 2GB sticks of ram than you will from 4x 1GB sticks. The ASUS video card has a better warranty but I would really try to get the 8800GTS. The 8800 is a much better chip than the 8600 and the GTS is cheaper. 32bit OS's can only recognize up to 4GB of memory. Any more is a waste as the OS can't see it. You will normally on get 2.5GB to 3.5GB of useable memory due to some wierd overhead losses. On intel motherboards you can use the PAE option in the boot.ini and it will let you recognize all 4GB of memory. If you have 4GB, run WINVER and see how much memory shows. Put the PAE option in, reboot, and run WINVER again. |
