yeah, pretty much just like that... if you delete a lot of entries and you optimize its like defragging and its able to reclaim that empty space

It repairs, analyzes and sorts your mysql indexes. Makes things run at their best all the time.

It just brings your MySQL indexes up to date. They are stored in your server's memory rather than on the hard disk. If you have a database in which many entries are being altered it is important to repair and optimize on a regular basis. If you don't and you are using INNODB tables they can lock up and be unreadable until you repair and optimize the indexes on that table. This can also cause MySQL to crash.

i.e.. not degragging for years then tring it once can corrupt your hd ?

Nevermind, found it. Is there a way to set up a cronjob for this to run once a week or so on all dbs?
