QUESTION for OS/PARTITION/BOOT people. HELP a dummy inside!!!!!!

Ok, the machine I had that was completely dismantled by a virus I finally got to reload windows and formatted(not quick ntfs), but the full format.

Here is the issue. Some nitwit partitioned the drive and now I have two operating systems on the same drive.

DRIVE I: has 4 gigs of space, just enough to hold that OS of XP. Its the boot.

DRIVE C: has 250gigs and the exact same OS.

I should note that drive I and drive C are the same harddrive, I is just a partition. Not sure why the hell someone would do that. The format didnt get rid of the partition.

How do I get rid of this I: partition and make the machine go to boot the C: drive that has all the space on it.

Some of my new programs like CS3 need the boot drive to function properly.

Google hasn't been my friend and I think its because I dont know what to google to fix it. Can i just delete that I: drive that shows and the C: will become the default boot drive because the OS is on that one too?

during the windows install use the partition tool. Delete both partitions then reformat using 1 master ntfs partition for all available space

Or if your already up and running with XP use partition magic to do it.

Basically what he said...

Boot from the XP install CD, reset the partitions completely, and format all the unpartitioned space together as one drive.

Or you can simply use the software "partition magic " and rearrange the disk drives

If you are using Windows XP Professional:

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management

From there you can change/delete/add partitions and change drive letters.
