    Men can't shop for groceries?

CHICAGO (Reuters) - So, this guy walked into a grocery store ... and got completely overwhelmed.

U.S. men are doing more and more grocery shopping, both for themselves and their families, but retailers are still not doing much to make the trip any more enticing, retail consultants and industry experts said.

"Men do represent a large part of grocery shopping dollars and they aren't being very well accommodated ... sales are being lost," Mandy Putnam, vice president at consulting firm TNS Retail Forward said.

In a recent report titled "Men in Grocery Stores," Putnam said that men shop inefficiently, which leads to missed sales for retailers.

Many men have difficulty finding items, forego buying rather than risk purchasing a substitute for an item on the grocery list and hesitate to ask for help if they can't find an item, Putnam said in her report.

"They never ask for help, except maybe from the butcher, but they always say they never had problems finding anything when the cashier at the register asks," she said.

I completely agree. Ask for help? No way. Push a cart? Fuck that! And how many guys have EVER used a coupon?

I can see that. My hubbie goes in buys two or three things he is looking for and is out of there!! Unless its Home Depot, in that case he can look around for hours!!

I do all my own grocery shopping, and I cook too, so I know my local Publix quite well.

Coupons? Are you kidding me? I'd rather just spend the extra 50 cents and not waste my time.

Is that because you WANT to or HAVE to? You are single right? If you were married, would you still do the shopping? I admit I'm useless when it comes to domestic chores like shopping and cooking.

I wear an electric collar with an attached wifi cam so that my sister can deliver an electric surge to my limbic system me when I'm buying something not on the list. Pavlov at work...sigh.

Sounds like me. I only shop because I have to. I make my own dinners because I have to. Suffice it to say I don't eat much variety of dishes and it usually tastes awful.

I have a cook book I bought 2 years ago but haven't used it. It just takes too much time.

I always did the shopping when i was married. My ex could spend $200 and not get shit, while I could do it all for $125

I find it difficult to go grocery shopping. I always end up buying lots of chips, soda, beer, chocolate, and junk food. No real food.

I like grocery shopping - not into cooking at all tho so I just buy a lot of tv dinners and ready-made fresh food, but I know what I want and get everything done pretty quick

Yeah I'm single guy, Steve, and as such, I have to cook for myself, like it or not, since I prefer to eat home cooked food. I couldn't imagine being married, and even if for sake of argument I was, I would still do my own cooking because I want to eat on my own schedule and with my own dietary guidelines. If I was as successful as you, I'd probably just train someone to make exactly what I liked and hire a cook just to free up my time.
