What kind of idiot SNAILMAILS you payment for online work?

For real? It happend a few days ag, but I'm sitting here considering it now. We discussed paypal, epass, western union. Couldn't get paypal payment for a couple weeks for whatever reason (there were obviouslt LOTS of excuses here). Then we talked epass, and western union. I don't have my own epass right now but could get someone else to accept it, but we decide against epass and I finally settle on a western union money order, which should get here within a day or two TOPS. I'm waiting and waiting for the call to say my money order is in, so I get back in contact with my run around client and guess what the news is this time "Oh, my partner fucked up and mailed it post to you!"

WHAT THE FUCK? That shit could take forever to get here, providing it doesn't get "LOST IN THE MAIL". What fucking partner? I am working with YOU, don't give me this partner shit. Especially after a solid week of "your gf" or "roomate" responding to your online ICQ telling me that you're out of town for a week and will paypal me on monday" I sent two seperate money requests to two different email addresses. Apparently the first one I was given was "not the right address"...

All this time I keep asking when I'm going to get my money, and all i get is excuses and this bullshit about how "oh i have more work for you right after too..." This isn't the first time I had this problem working with this client either. I've done a couple banner/header type jobs for him previously which I had to chase for a week or so afterwords to get payment on. Do you seriously think I am going to do another job for this guy?

How the fuck do I even know if I'm getting payment here? I assume fully that I am getting screwed in the ass here at this point. Client offers to send an extra 50 dollars to me via epass for the troubles once I FINALLY get a hold of him again. Did he forget why I turned down epass in the first place??? I guess I could get someone to receive the epass for me, but now I can't get a hold of him AGAIN...

Basically if client reads this, you know who you are and I want a real answer. If I don't get something soon there will be an open callout, right now it's just raging after all the designer/client sided arguements lately...

Well, it sounds like your client may be playing games on you, but really... most of the points you made really don't make much sense.

I get sent a check for most work I do. Actually about 95% of it. Check comes through the mail.

In many cases, the person I do the work for is totally different than the accounting department or the partner who takes care of finances. Again, a situation where the payment is coming from somebody other than the person who gave the job.

I'll take check, wire, money order, or Pay Pal. One out of those four should suffice. Excuses suck, hopefully you'll get paid quickly. Try working only with people you know and have worked with in the past.

I have people mail checks. Not a problem. They don't get product until it clears though unless they have a very good rep.

I also mail checks to clients.

I couldn't get through more than 1/4 of your long post. In response to the title of your thread, I don't think mailing money by post constitutes idiocy.

It also doesn't mean you're an idiot for not having epassport in spite of criticizing someone for using snail mail.

Wester Union suggestions might be close to idiocy though. ;)

At least if you're getting paid by mail, you're still getting paid!

I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I wish I was drinking wine instead.

We still deal with cheques. Money is money if it comes in an envelope or in an email.

Most companies I know of send checks. Serves as a receipt and easier for bookkeeping.
