How are those not freedoms? Why does our government have a right to tell a private property owner that he can't allow smoking on his property? Why does our government have a right to say I can't use the money I earned to gamble online? Those seem to be infringements on freedom to me.

The smoking one came from the left. Hotel rooms is a bad example, cause I havent seen any hotels that were forced by the government to not allow smoking rooms. Frankly most of the hotels that have a complete no smoking policy do it so their rooms dont smell like shit. Gambling overall is regulated. Be it offline, or online. Why do you think they are regulating online gambling? Think about it.

I don't care what side of the aisle the laws came from, freedom is freedom. What about riding a bike without a helmet? Driving in a car without a seat belt?

They don't regulate online gambling, they ban it. It's banned because powerful lobbyists demand that it be. It also gives politicians something to demonize.

1) Drive without a seatbelt.
2) Ride a bike without a helmet.
3) Allow smoking in your restaurant.
4) Gamble your own money.
5) Use certain drugs (prescription and other).
6) Drink certain types of alcohol.
7) Buy a gun in many parts of the country.
8) Privacy (wiretapping without warrants)
9) Hiring people you want.
10) Accepting people you want in your school.
11) Serve people you want in your business.
10) Swear on TV and radio.
11) Sell sexual services for money.
12) Sell many types of consensual pornography (anything that is deemed obscene).
13) Eat types of food (Foie Gras for example).
14) Open a bank account without a government check.
15) Teach certain books.
16) Teach certain sciences.
17) Same sex marriage.
18) Marry more than one person.
19) Perform oral/anal sex.
20) Have adult movies shipped to your home.
21) Buy alcohol after certain times.

I don't agree with everything on that list, but they are laws that infringe on freedom. Certainly countries like Venezuela have less freedom than us, but lets not pretend that we don't have some of our freedoms taken away.

that was a waste of time.... sticky gonna pick 1 or 2 out of that list, deny those dont belong in the category 'freedom', and keeps on discussing etc etc etc blablabla....

first he asks for lists and 'bzzzz'-es everyone off who made a post after his request reacting to the original thread. Right now two lists are posted, and he still keeps on whining. It's useless.

Which of those are federal laws? Look like mostly state or local laws. Many of which are far from nationwide. Helmet law? There are many states you do not need a helmet. I dont see one on there that is not legal in some state. The swearing and obscenity is on public tv over the air channels. I dont disagree with that one. There should be channels that are safe for everyone to watch. Privacy? Come on now we both know better than that. If you have a wiretap on your phone its very likely there is a very good reason for it. They dont just randomly tap someones phone lol.

Dude you are as usual clueless. 95% of those are only local or state laws, and do not in any manner apply to the whole country.

-Gamble your own money.
-Drink certain types of alcohol.
-Use certain drugs (prescription and other).
-Hiring people you want.
-Accepting people you want in your school.
-Serve people you want in your business.

-Open a bank account without a government check.
-Marry more than one person.

Those are all federal. State and local laws are still laws infringing on freedoms. The topic was about America and lack of freedoms.

The wiretapping isn't about whether or not they are wiretapping you for a good reason, it's whether they can wiretap you for no reason (which they can).

Prostitution is not a federal law.
Obscenity laws are also local and state laws.
Open a bank account without a government check? You need to give your social security number, but what check exactly do they run?

Bigamy is a state law without question. The rest were laws to protect the minorities.

It's also federal, look up the Mann Act.

Yes they are, but they are also federal.

The Patriot Act requires to run all new accounts through the government. It also requires the banks to keep copies of identification of everyone.

No it's not. Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act states it's a federal issue as well.

Still doesn't deny the fact that they infringe on the freedoms of private business and property owners.
