Not long ago you were making boxes and being owned by spammers. Don't buy something that will break your bank account. Its just not worth it. Some flashy thing that will do the same job as a car you could get for 5k. It won't make you popular, it won't get you laid. It will just be very expensive to repair and maintain.

How about you give some cash to your parents? I'm sure they'll appreciate that.

Or you could get move to yr own house (rental) and buy a cheap car.

ultimatebbwdotcom 05-27-2007 12:22 PM

Buy something cheaper and keep the fatter bank account - liquidity is king, driving around in the hairdresser benz......not so much

Yes even if you live with your parents. It's a pure liability, the insurance will be sky high, you got petrol, tax, mot and servicing to factor in too.

Take that money and put a deposit down on a house, put tenants in and go off to uni. In 4 years time you'll be leaving uni with a house that someone's been paying off for you and has enough equity in it too buy you a a brand new mercedes :thumbsup

Listen to him. :thumbsup

Ok lets see....

- You dont even have a drivers license;
- You seem to be willing to blow all your savings (at least its not more than what you have eh...) on a car but you are forgetting a few things:
- Taxes;
- maintenance (and given its a used car you may be in for a hell of a ride);
- Insurance (has to be under your parents name and even then will cost a nice penny - at least the slk);
- Gas costs (there is no SLK diesel and I doubt the CLK your checking is diesel based)
- Where are you going to be keeping any of those cars?
- What happens if you have a crash and have to pay out of your pocket the repair?

You say you live with your parents, I get the impression you live FUNDED by your parents, if thats the case why not be a man and start chipping some of the money of them you spend?

Sorry to sound pessimist, but just trying to give you a reality check mate!

Anyway goodluck with whatever you do! :thumbsup

Take your savings to the casino, pick black or red, and you either lose all of your money (like you would by buying one of those), or you'll have double so that you can buy that car, and have the money in the bank as if it never left :)

This thread has a remarkable resemblance to the kak_azn ferrari thread.

whats your advice gfy?

I didn't know GFY allowed high school students (kids).

Anyway, to answer your above question, my advice would be bank the money or invest it. In most cases, cars are not an investment.

Dirty F 05-27-2007 02:29 PM

The SLK is for women. Seriously. Not joking.

Edit. thanks for the info. im not in highschool by the way, plus i thought the rules are 18+ . Which means you can be in highschool and be 18. Unless highschool is differnt age in the USA,

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh I wont be going for the SLK then, pitty as they look nice.

Bike 05-29-2007 11:21 AM

we have a new model SLK - nice car but it's definitely a chick car in my opinion

it's super small inside, I have driven it a few times but my back is fucked up (I'm 6"4' though) after an hour drive. Not recommended for tall guys :)

the hard top rocks though, works like a charm.

my girlfriend wanted the old model first but we said fuck it, lets go for the newer model!

If this is a serious thread, don't buy it. Owning a luxury car at 18 is no different than owning one at 20, 30 or 40. I drove a Jaguar when I was 18 - it was an xj6 and I wrecked it (there's a thread somewhere on GFY) caused my insurance to jump from $170 to $340 per month.

If you can't drive you should be looking at something cheap. Once you learn to drive find something that's nice and fuel efficient. For example I'm 20 now and drive an 07' Toyota Yaris sedan. I feel 'cooler' driving my fuel efficient Toyota than I ever did when driving my Jaguar.

Besides that, it only costs $20 to fill up, gets almost 40 miles per gallon and my insurance dropped back down to $186 per month.

Levi

Edit: also if you're a webmaster you probably don't do enough driving to justify spending that much of your money on a car.

Fresh 05-29-2007 11:45 AM

i dunno what ur thinkin dropin all your cash on a benz but if you dont know how to drive yet, go for the clk. at least its safer if you crash it then the slk is :2 cents:

thats a very very good point, overlooked by many people

why do you need a car if you sit in your apartment submitting galleries and browsing GFY ;-)
working from your home doesnt even require a car, and if you need it to go to the supermarket once per week, you can buy the shittiest one.....
the neighboors may laugh at you and you won't be bragging about it on GFY, but who cares?

sure thing, scotty may want some flashy car to go partying, but when you're dunk or stoned, you can't drive anyway, so its pointless

if you want to buy the groceries you can go on your feet, if you need something urgently few miles away, you just take a cab
then again, each situation is different and at a certain point in life, you buy flashy cars even if yuo drive them every 3 weeks, like Minte (or Bike as well?) because you can buy them and still have a bank account bigger than 90% of people

but in scotty's situation, I wouldn't really buy a "flashy car"

polish_aristocrat 05-29-2007 11:54 AM

if you want to spend wisely $20k, buy a typein domain for 3 years income, that beats a few times the real estate investments

xxweekxx 05-29-2007 12:08 PM

Bro listen to me!! I bought my first car at 17..

Infiniti G35 COUPE FULLY LOADED with navigation, came out to $40,000 total.

Unlike u, it didnt empty my bank account BUT if i could take it back i would..

Why? Because ive spent over $100k on that car, YES, 100K!!

First insurance was running me $7k/yr in NJ, not to talk of people denting my bumper in parking lots and me coming out to find out my bumper is fucked, then having to spend like $2k to fix it(My insurance deductable is $2,000 so i might as well not go thru insurance)

Ive had people ding my door, etc.. Besides, i get around 14MPG the way i drive, therefore it costs like $60 to fill up that 20 gallon tank..

And i have 60,000 miles. so divide ull get around 4000 gallons that ive used in gas over the years.. Multiply that and ive spent around $10k for gas over the years..

haha the maintenance is ridiculous.... recently just spent $2k for new break disc pads, rotors, etc.. not to talk of the services that run me like $1k or more depending..

Ive also lost 4 low profile tires to the fucking manholes in NJ, btw each of my tires are 19" and they cost around $300

I could go on and on.. I know ive spent over $100k on my car because i did taxes and i ordered bank statements dating back and i tallied it up, it came up to like $112,000.. RIDICULOUS>.

So i would have saved that $100k if i went and bought like a toyota..

SO DONT GO BUY THIS CAR! if insurance doesnt kill u, gas will kill u, if gas doesnt kill u, maintenance will, if that doesnt kill u, dumbasses denting ur car will...

DID I enjoy my car? YES do i love it now? YES.. Will i get another expensive car? Yea, but now im almost 22.

save your money invest in some other shit.. i woulda been at least $50k richer now if i didnt buy this car.. $50k is a shit load of money..

OH YEAH when i bought the car i spent 6% on tax on top of the $40k, so do the math. ive also gotten numerous speeding and parking tickets which i didnt include

Yo Adrian 05-29-2007 12:11 PM

Go for it !!!

pocketkangaroo 05-29-2007 12:11 PM

At your age, it's pretty hard to talk you out of buying something like this. I made the same mistake, thought having a cool car was what I needed. But you'll someday realize that cars for the most part, are a waste of money. They get you from point A to point B and decrease in value every mile and day you own it.

Take that money and invest in your business. Buy a nice domain name, buy some quality one way permanent links, buy content for your website, buy some time from a programmer to automate the tasks on your site. These things will increase your residual income and make you a wealthy young man.

Your options are this: Have a sweet car for a few years and no money in your bank account. Or have a shitload of money from your business in 3-4 years because you invested it in your business and now pulling big bucks in your early 20's while your friends are just trying to get in the door at an entry level job.

You don't want to be hood rich.

xxweekxx 05-29-2007 12:21 PM

make sure u read what i said very well dude

alby_persignup 05-29-2007 12:43 PM

people always seem to forget operating costs...

tranza 05-29-2007 04:17 PM

Go with car 1!!!

Nismo 05-29-2007 04:19 PM

You are what they call n1gg3r rich.

You spend every penny you have to buy a benz, you live with your folks(cant afford your own place), cant afford insurance(Spent all your money already), and when something goes wrong to your car you cant afford to fix it.

I can see it now; A benz sitting in your parents front yard with dents in it, a busted taillight, broken window or 2 with no insurance.

BradM 05-29-2007 04:20 PM

Don't fucking do it. I bought 2 new cars this year and am regretting it. I had a perfectly good beater for A-B. Just don't do it.

tehHinjew 05-29-2007 04:24 PM

if you REALLY want to learn how to drive a car, get a bimmer and sign up to their driving school
/end thread

they kinda look like girl cars

Huggles 05-29-2007 06:04 PM

tical 05-29-2007 06:20 PM

thats a chick car man

nico-t 05-29-2007 07:14 PM

if i had to pick id choose car 2 definately, unless you wanna look gay in that girly car (slk)

JP513 05-29-2007 08:34 PM

In college, only a total tool would drive a flashy car like that, especially if you're trying to impress.

Have fun and drink and party and fuck as many girls as you possibly can. Save the flashy wheels for your 20s.

polish_aristocrat 06-02-2007 09:33 AM

so scottybuzz, what are you buying?

Adultnet 06-02-2007 09:36 AM

car 1 is sweet..!

Rochard 06-02-2007 09:38 AM

If you don't know how to drive.... don't get a nice car that will break the bank. You will have fender benders and the car will get beat up. I destroyed a few cars before I learned how to drive.
