RE: Metric System. All adult webmasters use it.

The following example shows how good Metric system really is:

All adult webmasters use it to calculate traffic and money.

    The 1k abbreviation = One Kilo = 1000

    $1k = 1000 dollars.
    1k traffic = 1000 hits.

    Metric System > Imperial System

Umm.. I'm pretty sure everyone who deals with money uses the metric system, at that specific time..

However, I don't think american adult webmasters use the metric system when they go out to buy milk.

Also, stop beating a dead horse.
    ..and I'm off.

They don't use it when they go out to buy milk because there is nothing they can do about it. Milk sells in gallons by default, so they just roll along.

But in business, they choose metric system because it's superior in every way.

The Americans on this board who say the metric system is stupid (12clicks) are using this system everyday in their business.

So the point is that they are dumb not to realize how good the Metric System is.

I remember reading an April Fools project in an electronics hobby magazine once... metric time! They even had a clock you could build.

I guess english is your second language, eh chump?
let me break it down to a third grade level for you.

the second part of the sentence: but we never saw a value in that. relates directly to the first part: Some countries are happy to have europe lead them around by the nose

nowhere, dear child, was the metric system ever mentioned in my statement.
Perhaps when you graduate from school, you'll have a better grasp of the english language. This will go a long way towards you not having your nose rubbed in your limitted mental abilities.
I mean, you're going to lead a very sad disappointing life. Don't compound it by forcing me to notice you.

What I don't understand is this.. Why are so many of you so worried about what America does? Do you come here to buy your milk?

BTW the reason we don't use the Metric system is simple.. It was about sticking it to the the Brits and letting them know we were going to do things our way after the war for Independence. Has nothing to do about which is better.

Nothing like re-writing history on a Sunday morning!

Thomas Jefferson proposed a metric system to the First Congress several years before the French, who were the first to adopt metricity, had done so. Had it not been for his clumsy naming conventions (he suggested every unit having its own name, instead of adding prefixes to common roots), the US could have been the first country to go metric.

The British didn't go metric with their coinage until 1971 and still have not completed the switch to a fully metric measurement system.

And if you hate it so much you don't have to deal with us Americans if it bothers you so. Funny how Americans have had no problem dealing with it for 231 years.

Also America is slowly converting to metric. some examples.

2 LITER bottles for sodas have been the norm for 20 years now. As a kid we used to buy soda in QUART bottles for larger size bottles. In the last few years 1 littler and half litter bottles have been becoming more the norm. Most 12/24 packs of bottled water come 1/2 liter sizes. 5-10 years ago you would have found 16 oz bottles only.

Wine and hard liquor in the US have been sold in containers labled in either liters or milliters for over 25 years.

Cars sold in the US have both MPH and KPH on their speedometers. In many places speed limits and milage signs are listed in both miles and kilometers.

In 2001 the US stock exchanges switch from fractional listing of stocks to decimal.

Also NASA has decided to use metric units for all operations on the lunar surface when it returns to the Moon

By the way I do not believe the UK is fully metric. Hell they don't even use the Euro so why all the US bashing?

I'm not bashing. The last thread about this was full of americans saying that Metric system was stupid. I'm just making a point that Metric system makes much more sense than Standard or however you call it.

Idiot. $1k does not equal 1 kilo dollars. Kilo is a weight or distance.

1K of RAM perhaps, but then it is 1024, not 1,000.

1K of RAM perhaps, but then it is 1024, not 1,000.
k (for kilo) is an SI prefix denoting 103 = 1,000 (one thousand). Consequently, the letter K can be used in spoken conversation to mean "thousand"
SI is the International System of Units, aka the metric system. Kilo simply denotes 1000. It can be applied to grams, meters, dollars or cookies.

I'm sure we all agree the mertic cookies taste better than those damned American standard cookies.

Who really cares as long ppl know what they are doing...

The problem arise when the worlds smartest brains use the tax money, like the NASA ppl, they suddenly mix measurements, and their probes end up fatal or lightyears off course. Hopefully the brains controlling and programming military rockets on earth, do not make same mistakes
