HDDVD has a better setup for the special features and extra content. There's really no discernible different between the two with regards to picture quality.

I have players in both formats, so I'm not speaking out my ass.

I have the PS3 Blue-Ray and love it. It looks great on a plasma but I think in the long run the HD-DVD will take over just do to the name alone. People know what HD means and it will be much easier to market HD-DVD to the average consumer . that's just my opinion

I figured no porn on blu-ray would have killed it by now but I think there are going to be two formats for quite a while not like betamax

Blu Ray does have a bigger list of supporting movie studios. I just picked up the two Pirates titles and they're unreal in HD.

I really can't see any difference between the two. I'm sure there is, but to the naked eye...it's hardly noticeable if it is at all.

Doesn't matter to me who wins the "format" war. I really can't wait for one of them to give up and put all the discs on clearance so I can snatch them all up.

Also worth mentioning is that HDDVD discs can be pressed on current standard DVD presses with slight (if any) modifications. Blu Ray needs it's own presses.

HD all the way, blue-ray is a better format but will not fly with the consumers. I think HD already won.

HD DVD just because sony sucks for trying to make a proprietary format like always.

This isn't 1980. Porn will have no say in who wins this format war. Completely different circumstances between this and VHS vs betamax

It's not a Sony proprietary format.

Who is that? 70% of HD discs sold are blu-ray. Blu-ray is winning and will win. For example Casino Royale has sold more blu-ray discs than the # of HD-DVD players that exist. So even if it wa available on HD-DVD( which it isn't ) and every single owner of a HD-DVD player bought Casino Royale it still wouldn't match the # of blu-ray dics of it sold.

Sony was super smart putting blu-ray in the PS3. This is the main reason why blu-ray sells more discs than HD-DVD.

Thye cost differential of making a HD-DVD disc and a blu-ray disc is becoming smaller everyday.

But there is a difference, which gives HDDVD a slight advantage. It might be shrinking daily, but it is an advantage.

Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion. I understand that online porn wasn't around in 1980 but last time I checked the porn DVD sales/rental market was alive and well.

Its not nearly as big as the advantage as Casino Royale alone. I own about 30 blu rays and I have seen that a LOT of the movies on HD DVD are just not the better movies.

I couldn't care less. Fuck spending money on mainstream movies, they just don't hold my interest anymore. I have enough favorite programs on tv that I can watch when I sit and eat at my table. I almost never watch movies or buy dvds anymore. On rare occasions, I wait until a movie comes to HBO or Showtime or Sundance or IFC and then I just tivo them.

It seems BluRay wins this game, although it will last until one of them gives up, if any ... If lots of producers manufacture a player with both formats, then they could co-exist a long time, until the next generation format.

All the players will end up playing both types but Blue Ray should have ran away with it. They had every advantage. Sony fucks everything up these days and I'm glad. They create many of these format wars and they suck!

Tried doing a lot of research on it. Price has a lot to do with it. Blu Ray players are a lot more expensive - while you can get an HD Dvd player for less than $500 now. Every review of movies that I have read that are available on both formats has ultimately gone to HD Dvd as the better picture. Again these are reviews I've read so I'm not speaking from experience. I don't have either player yet but have bought some of the combo formate dvds (HD DVD on one side and DVD on the other) - This is a great feature that Blu Ray hasn't caught on with yet. All in all from my research - I'm leaning towards HD DVD.

Just when you count HD-DVD out, Toshiba goes and drops the price of their player another $100, and the Matrix Trilogy comes out the same time, and sales go through the roof.

The HDA2 was the number one selling DVD player on amazon over the weekend. (that's including blu-ray and regular DVD players too)

Yeah, I'll give you that they can (generally) provide sturdy products for an attractive price... but I don't trust the people up top.
