Coca-Cola did at one time contain cocaine. From 1885 until around 1929, the soda contained a mere trace. Snopes.com said as little as 1/400 of a grain of cocaine was still in Coke at the turn of the 21st century.
Cocaine was in the soda because Coca-Cola was originally marketed as a medicine. Nevertheless, claims of cocaine being harmful caused the chemists of Coke to try and remove all cocaine from the drink.

So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

a lot of beverages did before the pure food and drug act of 1906 required labeling of ingredients.
I think the company that eventually became 7-up had lithium in it. Cocaine, morphine and other drugs were in many medications that were available over the counter. I can't say I've confirmed it anywhere, but a reliable source told me that coca cola still uses coca leaves to add flavor to their drink - except all of the cocaine has been extracted from it already.
I also heard that the only pharmaceutical house in the country that produces cocaine has some sort of relationship with coca cola.
I guess this would explain that trace amounts have been found in their drinks in recent times.Comment

i was listening to a show on NPR about this.. about added nutrients/caffeine etc to beer and drinks. the reason beer is farther away from this they were explaining is because caffeine is extremely bitter (as are b-vitamins etc) and has a horrible effect on the taste. soft drinks can just overwhelm that with sugar and other additives/flavors to cover those tastes up. otherwise... its something that everyone is working on.Comment
