To me, Larry Flynt is a regular businessman in the business of sleaze, whereas Jerry Falwell was a sleazy operator in what should not be a business at all. I object to the likes of Mr Falwell strongly enough that I cannot imagine being able to treat him with basic courtesy for more than the briefest of contacts.

But betrayal? Larry Flynt owes me nothing, least of all to share my point of view. And as a general principle, disagreeing with someone is no reason to dislike them, let alone abandon courtesy. Come to that, I am just as likely to respect and like people with whom I disagree, as those with whom I agree. The world would be a very dull place without variety of opinion and how someone arrives at and defends his/her conclusions, are much better guides to character and intellect, than the conclusions themselves.

Falwell was a stinking pig. Everyone knows that.

Flynt is getting older. As we get older we all mellow, reflect and have a different perspective on life. He is showing himself to be a gentleman at heart.

Larry Flynt has done more for the porn industry then everyone posting here combined will ever do. Without people such as Flynt & Hef many here would be wearing suits and ties, kissing ass and hating life with the high light of the day being happy hour.

On that note fuck Falwell. I'm glad he's dead.

You have not stated your opinion at all. Asking questions and making assumptions is not stating an opinion.

If I am supposed to presume what your opinion is based on your assumptions and questions, then I can only presume that you are an idiot.

As far as my opinion is concerned, no, Mr Flynt did not betray me or anyone else in the adult business.

For you to assume (which you seem to like to do a lot) that just because two people do not see eye-to-eye politically means that they can't be cordial, respectful or dare I say, friends, is idiotic.

That would mean that because I have little in common with Dig420 politically I can't like him personally or respect what he has accomplished.

Too bad you are so close minded.

Anyone knowing anything about the full history between Flynt and Falwell, and now seeing this (the vids), should realize that Larry is showing class and respect.

Over the years those two men went tooth and nail at each other, in court and in the media... but they eventually came to be able to communicate with a modicum of mutual maturity and understanding. I don't see where in Falwell's death Larry is betraying a damn thing.

You're dealing with a different breed of people, you're not talking about two dipshit trolls pissing on a message board.

So, does anybody feel that Flynt has betrayed all of us ( and himself for that matter ) by somehow giving Falwell a pass like it wasn't that big of a deal, almost conceding to him and sympathizing with him (Falwell):

I doubt anything Larry says or does will ever make me think Larry betrayed all of us. The man did more for "all of us" than anyone else I can begin to think of.

Okay, I know this is going to be hard to understand, but you can't have ying without yang. There is no heads without tails.

The porn business makes the most money when some people hate it, most people fear it, and few people are willing to talk about it in polite company. The forbidden nature of porn is what has always made it command a premium price and make it into the forbidden fruit we keep to ourselves.

Larry Flynt picked on Falwell and many others because he knows that their moral outrage is the best advertising he can buy. When the mainstream media started talking about Hustler, Flynt had won, no matter when happened. That he also happened to rub Falwell's nose in it by winning the lawsuit made it oh that much sweeter.

Without Falwell (or a Falwell type character) Flynt is just peeing into the breeze. So yeah, I suspect he will miss him.

Falwell was the anti-Flynt, his doppleganger so to speak. Falwell *made* Flynt what he is today. Of course he will miss him in many ways.

Nope. I don't know what your opinion is. I said that you have not stated an opinion, but rather have assumed much and asked others their opinions without providing yours.

I stated it is idiotic to not believe that people can have differing beliefs and still be cordial, respectful or friendly to each other.

I don't have a strong opinion on this issue and that's why I asked. If my mind was 100% set on this issue - there would be no use for me asking, wouldn't it be?

Read your own statement and tell me if you don't see an ironic hypocracy and contradition in what you just said? You're telling me that you're not gonna tolerate my opinion for not tolerating other people's opnions ( which is not even true )!!

Why not ask a neighbor kid to read it to you. Maybe he can explain it to you. I never said I would not tolerate your opinion, I said (and you confirmed) that you never stated your opinion.

Perhaps you can explain why you need the opinions of others in order to form your own?

My neighbor kid told me that you should call him and he'll explain the ironic contradiction that you fail to see in your posts. ICQ me for his number...

As far as why I'm seeking opinions of others. Hmmm. Well, first that's why people come to "discussion forms". You know, to discuss things. I'm surprised that after these many posts you still don't know why you're here.

Secondly, I like to learn about other views on topics before making up my own mind. That way I believe I make more educated decisions.
