But in a decision earlier this month, the Federal Communications Commission proposed fining Fax.com $5.38 million for sending unsolicited advertisements by fax, the largest fine ever proposed for such a violation.

Lawyers in the California lawsuits said they would seek a minimum statutory remedy of $500 per fax from every advertiser who used Fax.com to send out unsolicited advertisements over the past four years.

Fax.com = this company is history.

It's interesting and could have good ramifications for email spamming.

Where does the right of free speech end and invasion of privacy begin?

in spam's case, the right to free speech ends at the spammer's isp router. after that, the other routers and servers accept the mail only out of courtesy or contract.

you have the right to speak, you don't have the implicit right to be heard.

There is also a difference in email and hard copy.. A company that receives 100's of junk faxes a week is out a good bit of money for fax paper and wear & tear on the machine. and those who use the fax/printer/copier setups are also out a nice chunk o' change from ink cartridges.

True.. it sounds like a large amount of money, but something has to stop these fuckwads from thinking it's ok to send junk to any fax number it can find.

You didn't hear about the 5 mil. fine imposed on fax.com because it was small potatoes to the media.. but 2.2 trillion will get the news out and voices heard.

Hopefully someone will do the same with spam and stiff penalties placed on the greedy, inconsiderate fucks that think it's ok to fill anyone's email box with utter garbage.. and that especially goes for the adult biz. .. They send em.. I report em.. whether it helps or not.. some yes. some no.. but I love it when they go down..

"We have between 80 and 100 different fax machines in the hospital. In one fax machine which we monitored for a period of about four months, we received over 500 junk faxes," said Mark Zielazinski, the hospital's chief information officer."

I would be pissed. I don't blame them for suing.
