Am looking to start producing some amateur content and i would love some tips on what kind of digital video camera to buy and what to look out for in models..

The camera shouldnt be dirt cheap but shouldnt run me a million either so the question is which camera would give me the best picture and most helpfull options for the money...

i aim for something that will allow me to make a ok/good quality amateur scene without leaving too much "oh shit this was shot on a cell phone" kind of feeling too it...

regular def camera with ccd should work....... you starting your own paysite? what are u gonna do with the content?

canon gl2
sony vx2100
both excellent choices.. do not get a consumer camera, the sound is clacky and the image stabilization sucks..

If you are looking to use the content well into the future I'd say the Sony FX-7 is the one for you

If Non-high def is the way you want to go then definately the vx-2100... hands down.

Don't forget to get proper lighting. Without proper lighting your content will look really bad or if you are aiming for shooting amateur home video style then screw the lights :- D

Btw with the Canon HV10 you can shoot some pretty nice stuff just as long as you got proper lighting. The camera is pretty cheap now as well should be about $800 - $900 now. Ohh yeah on the Canon HV10 you can switch between shooting normal DV or HD.

Check ebay for video lighting kits and prices for the Canon HV10 or any other camera that you may fancy.

Good lighting all you need. ANY consumer video camera with proper lighting will bring the results you want. Possibly look for a used Sony TRV-950. It's 3ccd and extremely portable. Good for regular shots and a no brainer for POV. It's probably around $500 used now.

Most of the reality porn empires were built from that cam.

check out panasonic's 3ccd cameras. they are small and look great.
and like was said before...lighting is cruicial.

have a HV10 and a GL2.. happy with both.

Used to use a XL2.. heavy fucker.... go light.. it helps.. considering an hvx200, but haven't gotten that far yet.

vx2100 is your light is not going to be controlled as well

gl2 if you got total control over your light... the gl2 is definitely a 'warmer' picture

the vx2100 is badass in lowlight though...

I own both.

I have the Vx2100 and the Panasonic Dvx 100, and i would say go with the Panasonic. We love the panasonics, fairly lightweight, and picture quality is second to none
