hiya,
get a cheap set of belt driven Numark decks. These will set you back like £50 each. a basic numark 2 channel mixer - £50 nice set of amped speakers - £50 Basically Numark do a Dj package which is what me n both of my brothers started on. My eldest brother has now Dj'd all over the UK and abroad, and my 2nd eldest bro Dj's/Mc's at wharehouse raves regularly. I remember them paying £200 for it new. It may even be cheaper now, but it just shows ya you only gotta start paying low ![]()

^^^^^what he said. very good setup for a beginner. although i agree with the poster above you, i am very glad that i learned and started with technics. i hate playing on any decks but technics. its the difference between driving a rolls royce and a crappy pontiac fiero. the only other set of decks that i would recommend are the stanton direct drive decks. |

Do not get cheap belt driven decks. You need to get direct drive. PERIOD.

No doubt, if you're going cheap, at least settle for direct drive tables.

Belt driven decks SUCK ASS
you can not EVER Cue properly. If you are serious about becoming a DJ with Vinyl then you need to have Technics. Save your money and get the good one up front. The other thing that i recommend is to get CHEAP tables and a decent mixer but get yourself the Rane Serato and go Digital my ![]()

You will find it frustrating in the least to learn on anything less than technics quality decks.
The cheap models are very lightweight, so the tonearm and needle are a pain to place, you can forget scratching, spinbacks or literally anything else other than beat mixing. Even if you jog the desk the decks are on by accident the tone arms will simply fly across the vinyl. Belt drive sucks, you'll hate waiting for the turntable to get to speed if trying to beat mix two tunes from a certain point. Youll try and winding the record forward with your finger to play catch up and the lightweight tone arm will keep jumping out of the groove - practising even the basics on these for a few weeks and you'll throw them out of the window. Cheap direct drives aren't any better, the motors have pathetic torque and everything else is pretty much as lightweight. I sincerely hope I've convinced you not to waste your money - you'll be wanting to upgrade in a month because cheap decks make the initial learning process horrendous and four times as long. |

You can go with any Turntable you want but I guarantee after 1 month, you'll want to switch to the SL 1200's!
I bought some Numark tt100's and changed them for SL1200's 5 weeks after! ![]() |

Just buy 2 technics 1200's, little bit more expensive, but these babies stay a lifetime, and great resell value too!

It doesn't matter if they're good, they're not tec 12's.
Do not buy a turntable if it's not a technics 1200 or 1210. Just don't do it. Wait if you have to. Also realize that they hold their value used, so if you blow the money and find you don't use them as much as you thought you were going to, just sell them and you'll only lose a few bucks. |

Vinyl is very expensive....I would NOT get turntables of any kind unless you are planning on spending a load of money.....If you want the feel of vinyl and are looking for the cheepest solution I would recommend Programs like final scratch....serato scratch ....or Torq... Those programs come with a sound card and timecode vinyl...You have the vinyl controller and you can play mp3 or wav files from your computer. Even with these programs I would not use anything other the tech 12s

hey bud, i been dj'ing since a kid. Technics are the way to go. Do not waste your time with anything else. For a board I use Vestax because I am heavy on the scratch yo and need something that can keep up. anything else would fall apart in a week.

one more suggestion. learn how to spin on all kinds of tables, so practice with your bros on their tables. cause when you walk up in a club and their tables are not tuned right, or what the fuxors ever. you will need to be able to adapt quickly.

robfantasy, depending on where he wants to be djing, there are still clubs and underground parties that don't even have cd decks
vinyl is still standard in a lot of places |

I've been spinning for about 2 years.
If you are planning on getting into it hardcore, don't get any "beginner" decks becuase you'll just end up having to buy nice denon or techniques ones. but if you wanan go cheap, numark stuff is ok stuff. Do NOT get belt drive turntables. Direct drive only. Belt drive is for old ladies that want to listen to records from the 30s. I personally find cd decks to be horrible. The only ones i can spin on are the denon 3000s where the top platter spins like vinyl.

Jace, how much you want for those techs? And do they hold their pitch properly still? I have OK numark tables but the pitch drifts so much i have to adjust every like 10 seconds

- and I suspect for DJ's who want to have the rarest new releases like dubplates or slightly later promos, prior to the main release, having decks to play the vinyl on is till the way to go. |

Get 2nd hand technics or vestax and any shitty mixer with 2 channels and a crossfader to begin with. The mixer you can upgrade as you go, but get the decks right straight away.

well, im talking about big clubs that book international dj's
every dj rider i have seen has pioneer cdj 1000's and a pioneer mixer as standard. plus, i dont know anyone who carries around vinyl anymore. maybe for an underground rave or house party, but nowadays ppl just carry cd's.. and you can buy really cool dj bags for your pionner cd's and mixer from udg which are really nice and easy to carry.
