So? That doesn't mean you live in an "average" area.

UniversalPass Pete 05-11-2007 09:14 PM

I guess prices vary from area to area! The point I was trying to make was that gas has not gone up anymore than anything else! :2 cents:

GAMEFINEST 05-11-2007 09:18 PM

mattz 05-11-2007 10:08 PM

High Octane and Low Octane fuel contain the same amount of energy - it's just, as I said, speed of burning (the injectors still spray the same amount of liquid in the cylinder): High Octane can withstand pressure more than Low Octane can without destabilizing.

good technical info with a caveat added:

many (most) modern cars have computer chip systems which will tweak (advance or retard) ignition timing to offset detonation to prevent knocking in the event you put low octane fuel in a high compession engine.

when ignition timing is retarded both performance and gas mileage will suffer (slightly.)

it it true that putting premium fuel in engines not needing it will give no performance benefit, but the converse of that (putting low octane fuel in high compression engine) will erode performance .

Uh, your stupid man. My car doesn't even run on standard unleaded gas.

You get better gas millage in premium too.

Damn.. you are dumb, even my 15 y/o brother knows that. no offence.

DOCTOR 30 05-13-2007 02:09 PM

Gas almost as high as $5 in some places??? Now that would fuckin' scare me. I'm seeing prices as high as over $4.50 but $5 is impossible.

B.S. First off, your car should adjust for the octane levels. You car should not knock or drive differently on different octanes. It should adjust accordingly to the type of octane you put in - as cars now pretty much have laptop computers in them. Secondly, it's proven that the mileage difference between octanes is so minute that it's unmeasurable to the average public. Maybe, just maybe if you took the exact route every single day at the exact acceleration, hitting the exact lights, with the exact weather (temp/sun/wind), the exact traffic, etc etc. You'd be able to notice a difference in mileage. But even then, it's questionable if the offset in mileage would even matter since the higher octane is alot more expensive to begin with.

So, I mean really. Before you go calling people dumb. Do your reaserch. A five minute search with some reading on google would give you all the info I just posted.

Hey..I'm just following the manufacturer's suggestion. I doubt my Z would run to well on standard, nor would my 5 Series.

I do agreee though...People who drive cars that do not NEED premium gas, are just throwing their dollars away. :2 cents:

whomework 05-13-2007 03:35 PM

Its not too bad around here in CT and NY. I have been seeing a lot of hybrid cars on the road lately though. My car is pretty good on gas so I am not sweatin the prices. Its only another $5 to fill up.

thebestdamnsexshow 05-13-2007 04:50 PM

the gas prices are just damn crazy this day in age.. Thanks to g.w bush

squizzel 05-13-2007 05:59 PM

please stop bitching...

In england we pay nearl $2 per LITRE of petrol.
The average house is MORE expensive then the average house in america, yet the average income isnt much higher
Everything in general is expensive here... Even in rural areas but London is one of the most expensive places to live in the world.
Yep thats right... We buy the same cars, electronics, clothes.. everything as you guys, but guess what... We pay alot more for it then you :)

Now stop complaining, if you dont like it move :2 cents:

tranza 05-13-2007 06:04 PM

yup. Have friends in midwest that are yapping to me about getting 3 bucks a gallon. I'm like pal I'm rocking 3.80 right now shut your pie hole. :321GFY

Then it's like i'm in the midwest rant and bla bla bla... I'm like exactly everything is cheaper there. You party with 3.80 and then give me a ring at that point i'll be rocking the close to 5, but you will at least know what it's like to almost be pumping 4 bills per gallon.

</rant>

whatever though... pump gas move on. it's trival really. gotta get from point A to point B. If it's really causing that much of a dent on your ole pocket book it's time to get a bus pass.

Cheers,
B

Its $3.45 a gallon in parts of Connecticut. You would think that the gas stations would give a tube of KY with each fill up.

DOCTOR 30 05-14-2007 06:31 PM

Hey, that war in Iraq is costin' about a quarter billion bucks a day. Gotta pay for it somehow.

DOCTOR 30 05-14-2007 06:35 PM

announced today: highest ever gas prices in the U.S. Costing $50-$60 to fill up a tank.

For me that's no problem. A gallon would last me a month as I don't do much driving around. For people who commute it must seriously fuck them up if they're on a budget.

tony286 05-14-2007 06:40 PM

unless your driving ferraris using high octane is a waste:
