bears are just a daily thing here. they're so used to people it's almost scary, i was about 12-15 feet away in that picture, though i was still pretty safe. there's about a 20 foot drop in front him that i'm pretty sure he wasn't interested in gappng. i was way closer when i first saw him without my camera. he's a nice big cinnamon black bear, i've seen him a few times now. it was a choice between unloading on him with my paintball gun or sticking a camera in his face, i figured the camera would do less to piss him off. next time he's getting pummeled by a furious storm of yellow paint...

I see a rare deer or racoon around here, smell skunk sometimes, and hear about mountain lion sightings occasionally out here in the 'burbs, but I would have to do some serious traveling for an actual bear encounter (aside from visiting the zoo or a gay bar).
A real man would get his fishing pole, some 100 pound test line and a can or two of spam and reel him for the new carpet he had been dreaming of! Chicken!
