One-legged driver outruns cops
One-legged driver outruns cops
Police in Florida were embarrassed when a driver with no arms and just one leg lost them in a high-speed chase - again. Officers say the driver was Michael Wiley, 40, who overcame three amputations and taught himself to drive with stumps. He has since become one of Pasco County's most prolific traffic offenders, reports the St Petersburg Times. A police officer in New Port Richey, Miami, says he spotted Wiley in a suspicious vehicle - a blue Ford Explorer - outside a convenience store. When the officer went to investigate, the Explorer took off, leading police on an eight minute chase before losing its pursuers. Police are now seeking an arrest warrant for Wiley who, in 1998, led police deputies in a 120mph police chase down Interstate 75. According to court records, Wiley has stolen a car, kicked a state trooper and attacked his wife headfirst. He is awaiting trial on separate drug and illegal-driving charges and faces up to five years in prison. "He is one of the best drivers I've ever seen in my life, " said Lee Michie, a longtime acquaintance. "But he's the worst person I've ever met." http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_2325143.html |

Dam, I seen this part and was scared shitless for a second. I have a friend with no arms and one leg who drives truck in the US hauling trailers back and forth to Canada, and he's also a raging alcoholic. He has been pulled over numerous times and each time they really put him through the ringer, usually forcing him off duty for 10 hours each time. The cops down there really don't think he should be driving. I've been with him in his dually hitting the governor at 100 MPH and it can be a little scary, especially if one of his arm mechanisms were to break. |
