Awesome YouTube find...Johnny Cash's last public performance

For family and friends at the Carter family compound about 9 weeks before he passed away. It's acutally pretty amazing, his hands are shaking really bad and he's obviously in poor health, but he plays perfectly. Always The Man!

Walk The Line and Ring of Fire. Check it out!

I remember hearing Johnny Cash records when I was a little kid, but since I wasn't into country music, I pretty much tuned them out. Then when I began playing guitar, first folk and then rock, I began to appreciate his music more.

After I heard the band Social Distortion do their cover of "Ring of Fire" (which was written by his wife, June Carter), I was really hooked and actually went out and bought a few Johnny Cash CD's.

I was happy to see him crossover and do covers of various rock songs late in his career.

With his distinctive voice and humble character he became an icon, The Man In Black.

Thanks for sharing the video...

He was truly THE MAN. He didn't really fit into any one category. He was considered country, but he was much more than that...he was almost his own musical category

Their live shows are always great - especially the small venue concerts.

And Mike Ness is badass...

Was amazing he could sing at all at that point, he was battling pneumonia on and off for 2 or 3 years. I remember he was constantly being admitted to Baptist hospital that whole year. If he had died young he would of even been bigger. To be that huge and not died early like Elvis and others that are held in the same respect as Cash, is a huge accomplishment.

He had an amazing life and is truly an American icon.

Walk the Line was a great movie too. It introduced a lot of people to his story and everything that he stood for. I was lucky enough to have heard Cash records when I was a kid...my Dad played them all the time.
