Dukes Of Hazzard Car "General Lee" Goes For $10 Million On Ebay!

WTF?

I just saw on the news that the General Lee, the one bought by series star John Schneider sold for about $10 million on Ebay!

Schneider says he bought the car for $5k several years ago and put over $100k into the car to repair it.

WTF?? I have a 69 Dodge Charger in a garage at home, same make, same color and we used to call it and still do General Lee! We got that car just before the show aired on tv and we used to tear ass in it!

$10 million for a Dodge Charger????

Ya... that's a bit much.

But hell, the guy bought a piece of history. I used to watch the show all the time as a kid.

winning bid on Ebay is not the same as actually collecting the money. anyone that believes the car is actually worth 10mil to ANYONE, is a moron... not to mention the fact that the show had something like 95 identical cars.

Pretty hard to find a Charger these days .. They must've wrecked so many of them making that series.

It's a collector's item and because it was own by one of the stars in the show it's worth more than most of us will make in a lifetime.

I don't understand collectors. At the end of the day it's used dodge charger.

Actually, the worst part is that over the years, the car has been "upgraded" such that it really isn't anything like the car that was used on the series. From doors that really open, to viper parts and a big ass engine, it is pretty much a "renewed" resto-mod style car, and certainly much of the history has been lost as a result.

the 10 million bid is almost certainly a crank, it just isn't significant enough of a car to merit even a 1 million bid.

and to top it off they used up MANY Dodge Chargers so the one for sale was never the only one. Hell, I can just go buy an old Charger, paint it orange and put all the other shit the general lee had on it and I'd have a car that people would believe I got from the show.. Of course, I wouldn't be the idiot who paid $10 000 000 for a car that's worth no more than $50 000 to $70 000 fully restaored.

That's about the size of it. Bragging rights for sure! The guy or company that bought it can use it for promotion and make a mint. That show is so beloved by so many millions of people worldwide that it's still a favorite on reruns and DVDs.

There are so many circuits that that car can be showcased at that it's a showcase in it'self.

The owner can take it to state fairs and make a million a year at that. He can take it to NASCAR circuit events and promo it there. Since it's certified bought from John Schneider, he'll be able to command all sorts of prices.

People renting it for a ride now and then, money.

He can work a good $20 mill out of it within the next ten years easy.

From what I understand, only one or a small number was actually done up with the big Hemi engine that the boys get from Cooter at the very begining and was more or less the main car. The rest are just painted to look the same and used for stunts.

Yup, they were going through one or two cars a week during production, writing off car after car on every jump and every stunt. There were only a couple of cars that were truly "general lee" cars. This WAS one of them, but Schneider has modified the heck out of it, effectively removing whatever value it would have as an "as used" movie or TV celeb car. There is very little original left on the car.

They know who bought it. The bid is legit. It was the owner of knifecollectors.com, so you figure he's getting major free advertising for his site too.

Actor John Schneider, who played the blond heartthrob Bo Duke in the show, sold the car, which was not featured in the original show but carries the signatures of the cast.

Some people have enought money that when they want something they get it. 10 mil isn't that much to the super rich.

Plus, I loved the Dukes of Hazzard. One of my favorite shows growing up.

If there was a classic tv or specialty hot rod car I would buy that would be the old 60's Batmobile or the Hot Wheels stuff like the Silhouette. That was a bad ass lookin' car. Had a bubble passenger seat and jacked up rear end with mag wheels.

guaranteed that's a fake bid or auction.

what's the Batmobile worth from the Batman TV show in the 60's?

Ummm .. Dodge stopped making the 68-69 charger in, well, 68 and 69. Long before any show.

I don't know which is more pathetic, the fact that someone might have paid 10 million for a Charger not worth 1/10 that price, or the fact that I just bought an autograph from John Schneider for $10.

I guess it will go good with my autograph of the Soup Nazi.
