Tobacco omelet leads to jail time

My brother was there with this dude that it happened to. Funny ass shit -

A Mt. Pleasant man accused of putting chewing tobacco in a customer's omelet at a local restaurant was sentenced on Monday to jail, probation and community service.

Michael Charles Enders, 25, a former cook at the Lil' Chef restaurant on South Mission Street in Mt. Pleasant, was also ordered by Isabella County Trial Judge William Rush to never again work any job that involves food preparation, Prosecutor Larry Burdick said.

At his sentencing Monday morning -- Enders pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor food law violation -- Rush ordered Enders to 10 days in jail, one year of probation and 120 hours of community service.

Rush also ordered Enders to pay $670 in fines and costs.

Enders took Skoal wintergreen long cut mint chewing tobacco from a can and added it to an omelet he was cooking June 19 because he was tired of restaurant management "screwing him over and it was a very bad night," according to a Mt. Pleasant Police report.

Police were called to the restaurant at 2:44 a.m. June 19 after Timothy Bryan gains, 23, of Southfield discovered the tobacco in his omelet and took the dish to the manager, according to the report.

When initially interviewed by police, Enders denied being a tobacco chewer and that he did not put the tobacco in the omelet, according to the report.

Enders told officers that he had been an employee at the restaurant for five years and that he had just recently started cooking there to get more hours, according to the report.

After police left the restaurant, the manager contacted Isabella County Central dispatch and was put in touch with the investigating officer, according to the report.

The manager told police that he spoke to Enders and that Enders said that he was chewing tobacco while he was cooking, and that he thought the substance got into the omelet when he sneezed into his sleeve, according to the report.

When interviewed a second time by police, Enders admitted to putting the substance in the food, according to the report.

Enders indicated to police that he did not put the tobacco into the omelet because he was mad at the customer and that he did not know who had ordered it, according to the report.

Enders also told police, however, that he was familiar with Gaines and that he did not like him, according to the report.

Gaines was not charged for the meal, according to the report.
