I make mostly Italian Meritage blends. The one I won the award for was a 40% Sangiovese, 40% Cab Sav and 20% Petite Sirah.

This year, I made some straight whites for the first time and they are ready to drink now. I also have a straight Old Vine Zin that is killer. I think its my favorite out of all I've made.

This coming fall, I'm going to Portland to make a shit load of Pinot Noir. Some of the best Pinots come from the Willamette Valley in Portland.

I'd be happy to share, I've got plenty :thumbsup

Elli 05-04-2007 10:09 PM

I love flora and fauna photography, like so:

A couple weekends ago at the Sun Yat-Sen gardens:

Sunset in Feburary:

Other than that I like to read and write and cook. I'm big into cooking. Tonight I made prosciutto wrapped chicken with mushroom cream sauce, green beans, and rice.

Prosciutto sounds good. I like to take chicken breasts and pound them thin. Then take some preosiutto and fontenella cheese and put in the middle and then fold one end over the other. I bake them for 15 - 20 and then put them in a skillet and sautee them with some white wine, rosemary and onions.

I like the cream sauce idea ... I'll have to put something together. Thanks

Mr Pheer 05-04-2007 10:40 PM

I have more hobbies than I have time for.

My #1 hobby is my motorcycles. Currently have 4 in the garage. I'm not a bike snob meaning that I like all kinds of bikes. Cruisers, sportbikes, dual sports, dirt bikes, it doesnt matter I'm just a motorcycle lover. And being a true motorcyclist, I wouldnt dare take one to a shop to be repaired or maintained. I have 2 fully stocked tool cabinets, a motorcycle lift, air compressor, mig welder, specialty tools, everything needed to do anything from a simple oil change to major engine and frame repairs.

And I like riding ATVs, got one for everyone in my family. Its a great way to spend time with the wife and kid.

I also like just doing hobby-things with my kid. Lately we've been playing guitar hero 2 together on xbox 360, we both have r/c helicopters and r/c trucks, and just got into model rockets.

Yeah, real red Burgundy is just too expensive. But these days, Willamette Valley Pinots aren't cheap either, nor are Cali Pinots, so I buy New Zealand for the varietal, or the occasional inexpensive but decent Pinot from Cali.

Petite Sirah is an interesting choice to blend--glad it worked well.:thumbsup your Zin sounds beautiful.

Tough call. I am enamored of my 10-year Leoville Barton vertical (95-04). I dream of the day I will consume my 2003 Cod d' Estournel. I also plan to soon drink a bottle of my 2 1999 Fanti Brunello di Montalcinos. I love all my Brunellos actually. Also fond of my 2001 Chateaneu de Beaucastel Chat-nuf, and a variety of nice Bordeaux, etc. Lots of good stuff in there across the price spectrum, but my personal favorite (if not my greatest) is probably the 2001 Valsacro Dioro Rioja, probably because I have bought more of them (16) than any other. Best combination of price/greatness I can think of.
http://www.forkandbottle.com/wine/wb...01valsacro.gif

All the stuff in the Vinotemp 60 is for future use after more maturation, plus another 30 bottles should be in there but no space. The rest, I generally drink affordable wines, usually in the $8-20 range. Typically these are Italian blends or pure Sangiovese, Aussie shazzams, Rhone & Loire reds, etc. But it varies a lot. Come to D.C. some time . . . I got a lot of good ones I need to bust a cork on!:thumbsup

that's great that you got your kids into your interests... i'm looking forward to picking up another car for my son. we play basketball together when i have my time with him but i'll probably turn him into an r/c addict too.

sorry about the ankle dude... my toe is still recovering from guys landing on it after rebounds! :disgust

You've got some nice bottles in there. A couple I haven't heard of, so its off to google to get some info.

I'm a big Brunello fan as well. There are some new wines coming out of Chili that are pretty damn good too. I'm actually in the process of building a 12x16 foot wine cellar in the basement of my house in Cleveland. I live here in the summer and spend the rest of the time in Phoenix where I've been living for 6 years. I'll take some pics of the cellar in progress and if I ever get to DC, I'll let you know. Pop me an ICQ sometime. I love chatting about vino.

Brunello day is a good day.:pimp Listen . . . most of my Barolos, Barbarescos and Brunellos are a bit young right now (like '99 & '01 Castelgiocondo Riserva), as are my classified growth Bordeaux, but one of my 99 Fanti's will be opened by the end of the year.

I don't have the money to buy these great wines by the case right now, but if I ever do, I'd like to build a cellar along the lines of what you're building. Fuck man . . . post pics of the cellar even if it is still under construction.

I sent u an ICQ.

No, I partnered up with a professional builder for that task, I did however attempt to make a few.... the results were more like kids toys then what i was going for.

My end result needs to be "The Muppets For Grown Ups"
