It's a scrumcap worn by rugby players (mostly front and second rowers to prevent cauliflower ears from scrums and mauls). Petr Cech (the Chelsea goal keeper) fractured his skull in a collision head clash with Reading player Stephen Hunt. Cech almost died. So he's not taking any chances.

And he was recently still bitching about that Liverpool goal a few years ago that put Liverpool into the CL final that they went on to win. Even with players like Drogba saying Liverpool went on to win and so they deserved it, and it's in the past and it's time to move on, etc.
